http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2017/09/benefit-sanctions-actually-linked-to-long-term-welfare-dependency.html Hey look, it turns out starving solo mothers and their children if they are unable to name the father of said children does more harm than good. Billy boy claims this somehow makes fathers more responsible.

Moneyhavers, now might be a good time to donate some cash to the Greens to help in their Get-Out-The-Vote efforts, and reach those who are typically difficult to reach or under-motivated, to get them to submit their vote.

NZH is presenting "How Jacinda's plan fell apart" for two days in a row as their top story. NBR called her NZ's Sarah Palin. Newshub played National's Labour-Tax ad in it's entirely during their segment on the tax clarification. If Labour doesn't win it won't be hard to guess why. The fact media are criticising Labour more for clarifying their tax plan than on their apparent vagueness is pretty poo poo and frankly supports the idea they sell spectacle and controversy rather than information.

And in the meantime there is nothing about the National MP who lied on his citizenship application. Omitting details of his time in the Chinese security sector. Also the roundup of the last debate fact checked Robertson's claim National increased taxes 15 times and Joyce claiming it was maybe once. They recounted 15 or so instances of new or increased taxes. Conclusion: Who can tell?

It was hosed up the way Joyce's bs about $11bn was reported for more than a week as a "he said, she said" issue when it was clear from day two that he'd got it wrong. But Labour have had plenty of positive headlines this election too, I actually think it's been better then the past two

Horizon poll has: National 38.5, Lab 38.3, NZF 9.8, GRN 7.7 It also has ACT on 1.4 which would get them two seats and make a Nat/NZF/ACT coalition possible. https://www.horizonpoll.co.nz/page/477/main-partie

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/96882032/nothing-cuddly-about-this-campaign Absolute garbage from Tracy watkins on stuff. Painting this as a dirty campaign from both sides when it's obvious only one side has been going negative and misleading. Then when Jacinda and labour finally respond it's compared to the Clinton deplorables thing which is absurd because one was targeting supporters, and one only the campaign. Finally another excuse to bag labour's tax policies without emphasis that National's attacks were bullshit. I know i should no longer be disappointed with the appallingly low standard of NZ journalism but this is just pathetic trash. At least the comments are surprisingly decent on this one

Watched Jacinda's interview and Corin good for him to be as hard on her as he was with Bill. Corin chased down both but he really tore into Bill for his inability to answer questions, running attack ads and Nationals terribleness now and the last 9 years. I wish the interview went on for longer. Pretty funny he kept singling out horticulturist like they weren't farmers or some sort of special forces. He got a little clarification on Jacinda's intentions on tax and gave something of a time frame as when a decision might happen(Hopefully months). The real leadership moment came when again was willing to take on personal responsibility which Bill refuses to do. The Korean free trade line of questions were bad though as she is right that you don't show your hand before you enter negotiations as annoying as that maybe for transparency although you still have to sell it to the public afterwards. Good finish with "Yes".

exmarx posted:reminder that agriculture is like 4% of gdp That's not a useful or accurate measure of its contribution to our economy because GDP only includes end goods, so the bulk of agricultural goods (like milk powder/concentrates, wool, meat etc) aren't included because they aren't processed here. Agriculture makes up more than half of our exports, which google says totaled $61bn in 2013 voiceless anal fricative fucked around with this message at 07:30 on Sep 18, 2017 |
