I mean literally. A US invasion into North Vietnam up to the Chinese border might have healed the sino-soviet split.

not to mention reunified korea

this is a really underappreciated aspect of the vietnam war i dont think enough people appreciate south korea was a huge participator in the vietnam war and the war probably wouldnt have been sustainable for as long as it was without their help

kim il sung very much wanted to take advantage of their depleted defense to restart the korean war but china and the soviets both told him to not even think about it drawing china into the vietnam war doesnt just mean youre fighting the chinese it also gives north korea free reign to restart the korea war because of the pressure it puts on south korean troops in vietnam to go home and deal with a bigger problem

bear in mind that this hypothetical presumes that anyone in south korea even wants to back the government there any more because "facing an existential crisis because dear leader wanted blood money to make us go and fight americas war for them" isnt exactly a defensible position when it comes to domestic morale

be interesting how Russia deals with this if they make a push

i assume they'd have to use air power and accept they're going to lose most of the aircraft used

you think they're gonna just fly over the trenches and drop a shitton of iron bombs or something?

in any case getting through a defensive line is a job for combat engineers, not aircraft

Trenches have to be manned to be obstacles. I feel like Russia will be fine just shelling the trench works and keeping the Ukrainian army occupied and expending lives and ammo on yet another front

While no defensive line is ever a joke theres no way the Ukrainians have built anything nearly half as formidable as the Russians did to break their Spring Offensive that launched in June. It took the Ukrainians weeks to capture just the forward defensive areas. The Russians are already through those

The official word for quite a while was Russia defended the skirmish line too hard and were not utilizing the actual defensive line properly. Taking weeks to capture the forward defensive areas is good news, for Ukraine.

They usually counter that Russia has no tanks or troops…even though they obviously on the advance, the Ukrainians have been fretting about a new front for weeks, and there are factories pumping on video pumping out new tank etc. It doesn’t matter.

It also exhausted Ukraine's offensive potential just clearing that forward defense. Ukraine's offensive basically ended after the capture of Robotyne, just in front of the first actual defensive line
