Pretty much this, if you're over 30 and under 700 you're either a fuckup or you had the misfortune of interacting with the US healthcare system. To go from 700-ish to over 800, carrying a gigantic balance (i.e. mortgage) gives way more points than just autopaying your entire CC balance down each month (as the credit card companies call these, "deadbeats").
