I've never owned an hdr capable device but it sounds good in theory. Whiter whites and blacker blacks could make for a more dynamic picture for anything that's not a movie. and motion smoothing is good specifically for sports and video games.

I rescind that statement since I don't actually watch sports, ime every TV playing sports seems to have motion smoothing enabled. but I shouldn't have presumed for the meatheads itt.

however, motion smoothing is the only way I can get bloodborne at 60 fps. therefore by induction it cannot be ontologically pure evil, q.e.d.

No, sorry, if a special effects heavy movie has ropey and awkward looking effects I'm well within my rights to notice, especially if it looks that way in a trailer.

hdr is good and has nothing to do with motion smoothing. it just allows for it to be really bright in one spot and really dark in another spot at the same time

DebonaireD
May 7, 2007

Yeah I like hdr mostly, theoretically, although like every visual innovation, dumb bastards crank it to 110% and make it garish. My problem is just subtitles being set to 100% nits peak brightness or whatever and loving up a dark good looking image with the tv equivalent of aftermarket high beams. Just cause it's an accessibility feature doesnt mean it has to be garish and tasteless.

Ty I was getting worried I'd have to answer it myself.

I enjoyed the Bad Asses On the Bayou, it's entirely ridiculous and no one takes it too seriously (especially Trejo and Glover) so it works. I seem to remember the first one taking itself a bit seriously but they discarded any pretense of anything making sense in the third one. I can't remember the second one at all but I know I've seen it.
