RE: Scouting and random poo poo - I think always turn off scouting. The game will give you plenty of random changes to players. With OOTP 17, I've been deleting the Chinese league, all the Indy leagues and the Australian League. Basically any league I don't think is around as good as the kbo or NPB. They'll never produce anyone good and they just bloat the game file and add tons of time to the sims. I always turn off the option that generates international free agents randomly after the season. If you start an MLB game, you'll have like 1,000 free agents within a few off-seasons of starting. IFA (not amateurs but the guys generated after the season) players just bloat the file with players who aren't ever going to sign or retire. tadashi fucked around with this message at 02:30 on Dec 31, 2016 |

I tried a couple of seasons with actual college/high school feeder leagues. It's a great idea on paper, as the draftees playing actual games adds realism. However: A) it bloats the save files badly and b) I don't think the players develop all that much in these leagues.

Hmm, I can't figure out why half my clubhouse has awful morale. I flipped to commissioner mode to check the numbers behind everything - I've got a lot of players who are at or near -500 team chemistry and then a lot who are at 0. None of them have the rear end in a top hat personality traits that I can see. The primary malcontent seems to be Fred McGriff who's tanked this year and is batting like .180. (I can't do anything with him since I'm pretty sure he's being paid more than the rest of my roster combined.) Other than that they're all pissed at the team's record, which is understandable since we're playing .400 ball.

Winning tends to solve this problem, but failing that, I find having at least one Captain on the team is the best option. Captains have Very High leadership and BNN flavor text like "A born leader" or "Has the heart of a warrior" instead of the usual Very High leadership guys which say something like, "Shows some leadership" or "Well respected by his teammates." When you acquire a Captain you get an email saying the players appreciate the new leadership in the clubhouse. You can identify them in the editor as well:

My draft budget is always so high that I have no problems paying above slot for a few guys. Also after a certain number of rounds there are no signing bonuses except for the guys that need millions to not go to college (I never sign them, they just end up in my list because I auto-draft after six or seven rounds).

Ok my current game must auto-draft because I just get a message that says "here's your draftees" and like 2-3 will say "very hard" and the rest all say "impossible" and I don't know how to deal with that. Also my owner is bitching at me nonstop because I'm not "getting a Great Glove winner" - does that mean trading for or signing someone who won one in the past, or does he want someone on the team to win one? I have no reason to trade for or sign someone like that but he won't shut the gently caress up about it.

not at all, I always set it to "low" because normal seemed like it was way too harsh, but low felt like it wasn't quite enough either. Part of my strategy though has always been to do my best to avoid guys with even below average injury ratings or history.

A day later Fernandez gone for a year. May, Sale Tommy Johns. I had fun trying so salvage that season. Arrieta regressed so bad I cut him. Traded the last of my farm for Samardzija who won the Cy Young. I won a crappy NL Central, but lost to the Padres in NLDS. My final Rotation was 1 Samardzija 2. Tanaka who was still a FA in April (Dumb AI) 3. Hendricks 4. Smyly 5. Michael Feliz from the Astros Lester was never the same lost every thing had to cut him in 2018, Fernandez Stamina dropped into the 20s (Still Started him and got 90 pitches a game after that) Sale came back same as ever. Yeah, there's definitely a point between normal and low that would be the sweet spot. I've always been mad at OOTP over how frequently injuries occur but, when I go back through the stats, a lot of times it's more fair than I thought. Only 15 shortstops played in 150 or more games in MLB last season so I can't really complain if mine plays 130-something.

I'm not sure about the most recent version but I know in the previous versions the most realistic injury setting was one notch above default. it doesn't seem like baseball players get hurt all that often until you really look at guys careers and see how few times they play 150+ games. I used to play multiplayer front office football and with injury settings on realistic it was just about enough to cause people to break into tears

I tried to get Giancarlo the all-time HR record (in OOTP17) by trading for him and then continually extending him so I could get him 600 at bats as DH. He would hit .150 with a 50% strikeout rate, but add like 20 homers a year. I finally had to cut him loose because he was still 60 dongs short and I didn't feel like dragging his dead body around anymore. Trout also got over 700 but he retired as well.
