That picture makes me think it's a toilet in a doll house. Like that couldn't possibly be to human sized scale.

Electric kettles are disgusting and I refuse to drink anything heated in one. If you need boiling water you should use a little saucepan on the stove or use the microwave. Birkos are acceptable though.

I have officially found my dream home. It's a big beautiful 1925 Tudor that has an interior I would describe as Craftsman Castle. (warning, photo overload post) https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/851-Woods-End-Ln-Roanoke-VA-24014/49646393_zpid/ Since it's in Roanoke VA we actually get floor plans! (not shown: the various decks and porches all around the house) And now the inside. This turret may superficially resemble the McMansion turrets that try to match it, but this is definitely no lawyer foyer. Love this nook Pretty much my ideal kitchen right here More built-ins! Downstairs bath has an interesting layout with the toilet in its own niche The "office" and largest "bedroom" up there actually have very little usable space due to the angled ceilings, which I guess solves the 1 bathroom for 4 bedrooms problem. Open the curtain I want to see that glorious pink cast iron tub! It's priced at $359,000 which annoys me because that's more than I can afford but it's not, like, a crazy amount of money like that $1.9 million Sears house. The fact that it had a pending sale fall through and is back on the market is kind of ominous though, and the baseboard heating for the place must be expensive as hell. But it's got 1.21 acres of (sloping) land in the city of Roanoke and it's less than 2 miles from the Carillon Clinic. Ah well... Youth Decay fucked around with this message at 03:16 on Feb 14, 2020 |

That sounds like bargain for what is basically a mansion. I'm always amazed at how cheap property is in most of the US. I live in Brisbane, which is one of the cheaper of the major Australian cities to live in, and 350k would buy you say this kinda crappy apartment in the middle ring (this is the building a friend of mine lives in): https://www.realestate.com.au/property-unit-qld-greenslopes-132960078 Admittedly Roanoke is a pretty small city but even in regional cities here you'd still be getting far, far less than that for 350k.

What is up with the toilet platforms? I assume some of the funky "toilet at the top of half a flight of stairs" is from converted units, but it's like people are taking "the throne" too literally. Unless the idea is in fact to have a piss throne.

Unless the idea is in fact to have a piss throne. At least locally, I've seen them in a couple of scenarios: The house is a slab foundation and an existing room was converted to a bathroom. The bathroom is in a basement where the floor is below the sewer line. I went to a wedding years ago at a church that had the 2nd scenario. You opened the stall door, and the toilet was up 3 steps.
