Yeah those are all advantages I am aware of. Nepotism is a specifically separate thing, though. It has to be in the industry.

Every second actor has rich parents, but not all are Zoe Kazan, who was basically born into hollywood.

There is functionally zero difference in getting your demo in front of a record exec because the exec is your father, and getting the demo in front of a record exec because your father owns a lithium mine and goes to the same country club as the record exec and the prime minister.

Edit: not sure if you caught my other edit but there's also the Brian Eno thing which even qualifies for your narrow definition of nepotism.

Yes, the privilege of wealth is functionally very similar, but nepotism has a specific definition. There is a difference between Fred having wealthy parents (big surprise with that accent lol) and someone like LMFAO or Billie Eilish.

This set was pretty fun. I guess I wouldn't mind dubstep making a small comeback if it can blunt the takeover of tech house.

Any Avalanches fans? This is apparently a track from an EP by original member Gordy around the time of Since I Left You. Essentially a lost Avalanches track. Pretty cool anyway, but awesome if the story turns out to be true.

It's not great, it's okay, but there are some blunders and some bad rehashes.

It's true he's boring but I can't hate Fred Again too much because he's at least doing SOMETHING. Like, I love Justice, I've listened to them more than probably any other EDM group - but they legit just stand there at their shows pretending to turn nobs, the trope about "they just press play and dance" is true for the most part about big name DJs.

I have been on the Fred again train from pretty much day one, he's just one of those artists where if he connects with you it's going to be in a big way, it seems. Something about his songs, they could come off so cheesy but to me anyways they just seem earnest and endearing. Not going to begrudge the dude growing up rich.

He makes such good foggy night walking music.

Fred definitely has some bangers, but I think, and this is gonna sound really old of me, but he's got some maturing to do. He's talented and is coupled up with some really experienced people right now, which I think is going to benefit him. He does this dumb poo poo like completely ruin a moment by stopping the track that even his mentors are like "why the gently caress did you just do that". In that NY set that was last posted, Skrillex was about to kill him for doing that stop the track poo poo that paid off in Boiler Room.

Fred has a really good set on Boiler Room which I'm sure is gonna be the biggest Boiler Room set done for awhile, and he's kind of riding off that. He can't keep doing that tapping poo poo forever though. But I can't say he doesn't have talent. Delilah is really good, and he's got a few others that really work, but I think a lot of his success at the moment is riding off Skrillex.

Edit: Also, I just checked again, and that Fred set is now #4 on the most watched Boiler Room sets of all time, in just 6 months. At this rate it's going to completely eclipse every other set in about 1 1/2 years.

I understand it, coming from dub culture where you've got records nobody else does it kind of makes sense. But yeah, it's not my favourite thing either, and definitely not something I do during mixes (I spin the platters plenty but never do I stop a set to hear the intro/drop of a tune twice) I'm too busy with blends. Unless it's live and the track is huge enough that the MC tells me to pull it up, then I guess I'm loving with my flow that night.

Toxic Mental

Spin backs are fine but you cannot stop the music, it has to go straight into something else like a beat switch and not just getting on the mic and saying "ERRYBODYMAKESOME NO-OOOOOOOOISE" for the 40th time in an hour

Charlotte De Witte is techno, sometimes categorized as minimal techno or business techno(biztech) so here are techno recommendations:

Amelie Lens (Another popular Techno DJ, she has a lot of sets on YouTube if search for her name)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb64jGwa00s

Ellen Allien (Just as big as Charlotte De Witte and Amelie Lens)

Here are some other female techno DJs that I like:

Rebekah - Hard Techno

Clara Cuve - Hard Techno
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENOEyGnc2pw

Sara Landry - Hard Techno (also mixes a lot of hip hip elements too)

'Paul Severe' would be a pretty good name for a Boston-area DJ/producer who spins, uhh, Hardstyle.

For content: I've said many times ITT how I've all but abandoned Dubstep since the vast majority of it, to me, is completely unoriginal headbanging bullshit. That said, if Excision is doing something, I will always check it out. Even his stuff is slowly becoming bland to me, but every once in a while he drops something that manages to impress. This is sort of one of those times:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7P3FsOX--w

The opening guitar riff really reminds me of something I can't quite put my finger on, but I think it's a SOAD tune (Lost In Hollywood, maybe). It takes a while to get going from King's emo vocals, but once the 'second' drop hits you're like "Yep, that's Excision all right."

Maybe this is a bad place to ask bc :files: and whatnot, but is there any chance someone can PM me and help me get SoulSeek working? There's some stuff I'm having a hard time finding and I've never used the service, it's a longshot but it might be there.
