We had those huge chonky brown tiles in the hallway of my childhood home. I loved them. It kept the house delightfuly cool on those first few hot days of the season. They also radiated the heat of the coal stove for hours.

They're called Saltillo tiles. Since they're traditionally unglazed and low-fired, if they're used in bathrooms they have to have an acrylic or polyurethane coating applied to keep them from absorbing water.

For some reason those tiles got used a lot in 1960s and 1970s church architecture around here. I step into a room tiled with those and in my head I'm transported to the parish youth centre I used to go to daycare to. :3:

What do you love or don't love about it? That price isn't bad, but is it just that it's the only one that didn't have a bunch of extraneous hanging bullshit or Edison light bulbs involved? I ran through Overstock because I remember they were having a lighting sale, and I thought this one was pretty cool for a clean, modern design.

Also for the purpose of this thread, I found a chandelier that will get you pregnant

This house is a hate crime. All of its interiors is the only brown that's allowed inside it.

There's sixty four photos in that link and I won't repost them all but I want to point out some terrible things.

Note the baby gate at the top of the stairs. That's definitely going to stop a toddler from climbing up those horizontal pieces and crashing down the steps. But no worries, the demon possessed clock just down the hallway will prevent such a thing. Or will it? Evil laughter?

Love to shower and bathe in a bathroom inspired both by rabbit feces and lotus tits. But wait, there's more!

That's right! They loved this godawful pebble poo poo so much they plastered it around the entire house. Also yes that ceiling is textured and it looks terrible.

So yes and no. Its like all things, you have to maintain them.

Never buy the super cheap ones.
Don’t get ones with the movable nozzles, it’s a cesspool of gross.
Make sure you install it in a way that there’s easy access to motor/heater.
Make sure there’s someone nearby certified to service it - depending on where you are it can be heard to find someone who can.

I'm not in love with it, but it's just a clean, simple design that can also accommodate regular bulbs so I can install Phillips Hue lights. The Overstock one looks cool, but I only have 8' ceilings so I think a shorter, thicker fixture would fit the room better.

Tarpon are cool dang fish. I stayed at a campground on the Gulf that trained wild ones to come get snacks and be pet. The lady who owns the place would holler at anyone who would try to catch them in her basin. They also have a tiki bar made out of an old 5th wheel camper.

Hell, take a look. https://bmarinacampground.net/index.html It is very gulf, a bit trash but super chill. FANTASTIC bathrooms.

Toured this 90s era porn mansion yesterday. Didn’t find the sex dungeon, but we did find a closet full of nude female artwork that I’m sure was taken down in anticipation of the open house. You can see the edge of a tasteful bent over woman piece on the right in one of the entryway pics. What you can’t really see is a gigantic painting on the opposite wall of Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston where Ali is wearing Mickey Mouse ears for no apparent reason. Racist or not: you decide!!

I bought a place recently and it's a white box with gray LVT floors. I managed to change all that light bulbs from 5000k to a more reasonable color temp, but I'm at a loss what to do with the rest of the place.

Can anyone recommend a good resource for design ideas? All I know of is Google image search and Houzz, but those aren't always helpful.

I'm getting pretty desperate for some color and texture to the place but have no idea what I want our how to pick something.

When it comes to just collecting ideas, for me the best thing is to avoid catalogues and especially catalogues disguised as creative outfits because you end up seeing the same poo poo over and over again, and if you wanted that exact look the first time you'd have bought it already. So I follow a bunch of image-heavy design blogs on instagram and tumblr that are just random people collecting pictures they like. And easier version would be to look for interior design media and go through their archives. Apartment Therapy is probably the most popular one right now, but you can find blogs and magazines for pretty much anything.

At this point you just need to start figuring out styles and colors you like, so you can start planning around them. Mood boards are cheesy but useful if you really have no clue. Spend a week of two pulling together images that you like, and then go through them all and look for connections in design and palette. Don't be afraid of color, and don't be afraid of picking the wrong thing. It's your house, you should enjoy what's in it.

Good advice. Also don't be afraid to just pick a wall and paint it, if you don't like it you can paint it again. Obvious but more than half the walls in my house are the original poo poo beige "fawn" and I'm just now getting around to painting them because I didn't want to paint the wrong colour.
