Yeah, I just felt that tone was even more exaggerated specifically for The Defenders.

I unironically enjoyed Colin Ferrell's bullseye, though it could be because my expectations of the DDfleck movie were bedrock low.

Darefleck is awesome movie just for Bullseye and Kingpin being hammy fucks, as much as the rest is bland and forgettable.

Well, they're going to have to make some pretty substantial changes already, since Urich is dead and they won't be able to use Captain America.

AV Club reviews first six episodes of Punisher.

Review is cautiously optimistic and positive. Most of the problems in the Marvel Netflix series have occurred in the back half, so it's hard to say how indicative the first six episodes are.

If it manages to be a solid Luke Cage in quality, I'll be relieved.

quote:

The thought of that is more wearying than The Punisher itself is, though for the most part the series — created by Hannibal veteran Steve Lightfoot — trends towards the weaker, duller end of the Marvel/Netflix spectrum, possessing most of the common sins of its predecessors, good and bad, and fewer virtues than the good ones have.

quote:

As has unfortunately been the case with Daredevil and the Marvel shows that followed it, Punisher has many more episodes than story to fill them with. Though Netflix provided critics with the whole first season in advance, I ran out of patience after six episodes; they featured maybe enough material to justify three episodes, and probably two. Where the early shows like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage tended to start strong before running out of steam, the last few like this, Iron Fist and Defenders, have simply started slowly and then meandered from there.

Ouch

Meh, I have no issues with filler episodes. They can be great for world-building as well as side-character development.

I actually dislike densely-packed seasons for this reason. Defenders for example could have benefited for one or two episodes worth of light-hearted interaction between the characters.

The Punisher, more than any other Marvel Netflix property, benefits from downtime episodes. If every single episode was just blood and guts and bullets and revenge it would get a little much.

The punisher is tied with Danny for being the least humanized of the 5 of them, so the more one he spends in the sunshine talking and chilling, the more I’ll care when he starts cappin’ fools

It strikes me as laughably bad that The Punisher reads Moby Dick and has a character tell him "The only person you're punishing is yourself!" Sepinwall confirmed the second part was a direct quote on twitter.

Yeah, it's on the level of Luke Cage. It's much better than Iron Fist, The Defenders and the second half of Daredevil 2. It suffers a bit from being a story we've seen before but it doesn't really have the quality dips that later Luke Cage episodes had.

Most of his criticism seems to revolve around the fact that it reminds him that gun violence exists, which is a stupid loving angle.

quote:

The Punisher is most effective when its title character is indiscriminately slaughtering his foes, but that’s also when it most consistently evokes the kinds of real-life horrors that pushed the premiere back once, and could have kept pushing it back indefinitely. There may hopefully be a time when Frank’s actions don’t instantly recall horrors from our world, but that version of his story will still need to be told much more compellingly than this.

SHINee's back

I'm finally finishing Defenders, and why the hell did people think Foggy brought Matt the suit to talk him out of being Daredevil? The conversation was pretty clearly 'hey you need this so the cops don't figure out you're him if this goes bad'. Like it was all about keeping his two lives separate.

Unless Foggy says something else about it later idk what the hell people were bitching about. The writing's bad in this show, but that scene was straightforward.

I'll finish it up when I get home from work, but so far all Foggy said about it after giving the suit to Matt was telling Karen it needed to be done for the city, but maybe they'll get Matt back later. Pretty sure I was on the finale when I left, so we'll see.

that the timing for releasing this show will always be unfortunate because some drat fool's gone and shot a bunch of people dead (like today) seems like a thing a critic should incorporate in his review.
