Being generally nonlethal and obvious just means that you get more/more aggressive guards later on, and the last level and the ending plays out a bit differently. It's not a bad thing. Playing relatively stealthy but going loud when you have to or when you mess up is very fun and involves less hiding behind objects waiting for yet another guard to go past slowly.

At the start allegedly, when the assassins attack the Empress. If you kill them that breaks a non-lethal play through.

The thread suggest not to do a non-lethal run, but I did it anyway and find it way more engaging and rewarding because it reminded me of playing Deus Ex, where 90% of the game was sneaking around, finding alternate ways to objectives, and generally exploring the level map as much as you could.

Going High Chaos and murdering everyone who crosses you just didn't have the same appeal to me as knocking out the targets and subjecting them to some psychological torment/destroying their lives and careers.

He said "Generally non lethal",I think he was more asking "Is there a cut off for a low chaos run" rather than a "When have I messed up a non lethal ghost run"? You can kill a suprising amount of guards and still get the low chaos ending. I went stealthy and found non lethal ways of taking out most targets (but not all of them) and tried not to kill people I could knock out instead. Still killed my fair share of guards just doing their jobs, ended up with low chaos.

- Even if you are a thorough explorer, you will miss some of the collectibles. Instead of grabbing a guide, just finish the game. You can continue exploring after the ending AND you will unlock a secondary weapon for your Deuce which will guide you to the collectibles you haven't grabbed yet. This upgrade doesn't have infinite range, but if you stick to the roads you'll eventually find everything.
- While driving around you will frequently encounter your troops fighting with enemy patrols. If you help them out you'll get some tribute as a reward.
- The PC version has a bug (as of october 2013) with the landmark viewers. After using one, most of the HUD elements will no longer show up. You'll need to save+quit and reload your game to fix it. It's a not a game-breaking bug, but it's annoying.

If you walk into the castle garden, move the camera around with L1/R1 until you can see the cheat shop owner hiding behind the door. This NPC will let you tweak the level of enemy monsters, making any stage into a potential power leveling stage.

Speaking of power leveling, the best way to do this seems to be to get your whole team to stand on top of each other and make a massive tower. Anything this tower attacks will get hit by everyone on your team and more importantly everyone in the tower will gain full experience for the kill. I never really got into the postgame for disgaea so can't help you there, but you can find a lot of good info about D2 in the last few pages of the disgaea thread in Games.

To add to the poster above me:

-You can talk to the "Data Shop" moth in your base to see classes you haven't unlocked yet, and the conditions to unlock them---if it's something like "Level 20 ??? and Level 20 ???" then you haven't unlocked the classes that feed into those yet. But:
-Don't worry about grinding to unlock classes, because almost all of them will get handed to you as the story progresses, including two that would otherwise require getting multiple classes to Level 100+.
-You can pick people up with the Lift command, but if they end their movement on top of a character they will just walk to the top of the tower stack anyway. This is also the way you mount characters onto Monsters, which is like a mini-tower with unique attacks.

OH ALSO every chapter, you should walk around the castle. They will place 3 chests around the castle, which will give you stuff ranging from an infusion of cash to some nice items (randomized), and they go away (replaced by the next chapter's chests) if you don't go get them before you get to the next chapter.

You don't really have control over leveling because the game mandates no ability can be more than 4 units further from the lowest ability you have. Magic is the only thing worth investing in, though, as you can spam it infinitely, its screen filling and deals obscene damage, and there is no enemy immune to magic but there are enemies immune to physical. You can go back and find anything you missed because its a Metroidvania game.

To verify, Scrye and Dispel do not need to be leveled. Lightning doesn't need to be leveled either because it sucks until you get the speargun, and you can use it to energize the spears (but even then it isn't very great)

Invoke is an insta-kill spell for undead creatures and becomes super useful in parts of the game where you face a lot of them, because they can be tricky otherwise. This includes a boss fight which is pretty tough without that spell. It also has a really, really cool effect on living human enemies which I won't spoil for you.

When you are leveling spells, they have tiered leveling effects (1-2, 3-4, 5-6). Going from 1 to 2 is less of a jump in mana-savings and effectiveness than going from 2 to 3 or from 4 to 5. If you're borderline on whether you want to spend the amps to hit the next tier, try it out with the stone out because that adds a level to your spell. For example, going from level 2 to level 3 on Skull Storm gives you TWO flaming skulls instead of one. Guess what happens at level 5?

Start bumping up Ecto and Skull Storm early on, because they are the most effective offensive spells.

Enjoy the game. I love that game. Play it in the dark with headphones :ghost:

You don't need to do this to find points where you can use scrye. A voice will whisper "Scrye" "See" or "look" when you find one. Although I will admit that this might be easier since the whispers are kind of quiet.

It's been a while since I played SR2 (and I haven't played SR2HD yet), but the big thing I remember is that a lot of people hate the RTS missions. If you're one of them, after the RTS tutorial, one of the dialogue options is something like "I'm not interested in that kind of mission". Choose that and the game will never offer you an RTS mission ever again.

Escort and search & destroy missions can be a pain in the rear end. Courier missions aren't as profitable, but are much easier.

Keep an eye on your fuel. Jumping into enemy territory without enough fuel to jump back is a great way to end up dead.

Get probes, drop probes on planets all day every day. Come back much later and collect all the goodies the probe has discovered.

Early on you won't be able to take on the Dominators directly. That said, it is well worth jumping into systems where friendly forces are engaging the Dominators and salvaging loot from the perimeter of the battle.

If you want, you can leave all the difficulty options normal but drop missions down to easy. This more or less gets you the True Experience(tm) but makes it easier for the player only to get cash and level up.

Technology advances as the game goes on, everything gets better and more expensive. It's something to be aware of, not something to worry about, just know that if you spend months and months bumblefucking around doing nothing you might start seeing yourself get more and more squeezed for cash. If you drop probes, come back later to pick them up don't spend hundreds of days sitting there waiting for them to finish.

Generally, you want the weapons and gear that take up the smallest amount of space possible. Each piece of gear competes with the others and your cargo space. If the laser does the same damage but is a third of the size as what you've got jump on it.

If you're a trader consider a good shield, even dropping weapons to mount one. Shields block damage but they also block scanners, which prevents other ships from seeing what you've mounted and what you're carrying. This will cut down greatly on pirates coming at you.

The search function from the news tab on planets is incredibly useful for finding new and better equipment and ship hulls. It's also essential for tracking down your target for assassination missions.

RTS missions are largely composed of multiple-side battles and it's important to pay attention to what they're doing and try to weaken them equally it at all possible. Using all your resources killing Red while Blue gobbles up the rest of the map is gonna get you beat.
-- A 4-launcher mech with hover legs can kite much larger forces to death if you micro it.
-- The missile and laser turrets are the only worthwhile ones.
-- The second (blue chip thing) resource is BY FAR the most valuable, with the fourth (electro ball thing) coming second.

More about gear:

- The dude above was not kidding about the module size thing. Having the cargo space left to pick poo poo up is essential for making money.

- If you don't start with one, get a droid for your ship ASAP if you intend to do any amount of fighting. It will constantly repair damage to your ship as long as it's operational.

- Armor is also very, very important in battle. When looking at a new ship hull you consider getting, pay attention to how much damage it blocks. Survival in combat is pretty much all about balancing incoming damage with the amount your droid can repair. Having 5 armor and a 15 point droid will be a huge improvement over 1 armor and a 10 point droid.

You get extra XP if you get a combo of 6 or more I think. Performing an overload refills your focus as well. The battles are pretty curious to me. They are easier than in say DMC or MGR but it's still like I have to make a conscious effort to focus to play well, more so than the other games. The pace feels much more deliberate since you have to attack using those set combos if you want to perform well. Also, the music is interrupted when you get hit, like when you miss a note in a rhythm game, and I hate that. So I concentrate real hard every fight. It's a pretty unique system and it's kind of enjoyable. The enemies who can attack from a distance are annoying as poo poo though, not to mention the fact that your (special effects) combo breaks if you defeat an enemy, even if you manage to hit another afterwards.

I'm pretty sure you can just pick up any missed collectibles during subsequent playthroughs. I'm thinking of replaying the game with french voices. They can't be worse than the english ones at least.

I haven't played 2K14 yet but I have put over 100 hours into MyPlayer 2K13.
- If you aren't familiar with basketball at all I'd advise you to make a Point Guard or Shooting Guard for your first time through. They are far by the easiest to do well with without knowing all the complexities of your role.
- As a PG or SG you can spend most of your time facilitating on offense. So once you get the ball, which will happen almost every play once you get a few games in with a team, you can either wait for one of your teammates to lose his defender and pass him the ball or wait until the paint (the colored rectangle under the basket) clears and just run in for a quick layup.
- You don't have to memorize most of the crazy ball handling skills to be good at the game. The only ones I regularly use are the spin move, a full circle on the right analog stick, or a half spin, which is a half circle on the stick. These tend to lose most defenders unless you're already running straight into them.
- The B button on xbox also serves as a good way to lose defenders. I can't remember what the exact command is but an effective way to get open when you go to shoot is drive into the basket, stop, press the b button, and then attempt a shot. Generally, your player will do some sort of juke or fake step to lose the defender.
- If you really want to make things easy for MyPlayer, create a shooting guard with the three point specialist template. Just sit outside the three point line every play and rain threes on your opponents as you score 60 every game.
- On defense, you just want to make sure you stick with your assigned man. He'll have his name under him and there should be an arrow pointing at him if you're not right next to him. Just keep yourself between him and the basket. Most times you can stand next to him and press the guard closely button, right trigger on xbox, and follow him around. Also, you'll want to try to keep your assigned man from getting inside the paint if a shot bounces off the rim or something. Again, just stand between him and the basket.

I hope this helps.

Not an expert or anything but the best piece of advice I can give is to not worry that much about how your first character turns out. The skill "tree" is more of a gigantic sphere with tons of nodes reminiscent of the sphere grid from Final Fantasy X. Each character starts on a different part of the grid (i.e. one may be closer to nodes befitting an archer). Its amazingly easy to make a character that's not that great. You can probably still make it through the game, but as far as I've heard, higher difficulties require better made characters.

Additionally, check out the section titled "The Economy" in the thread in these forums. Selling and buying things works quite a bit differently than other games.

Wondering about Expeditions: Conquistador.

Any tips would be great, but I've played a couple hours, and I'm mostly wondering if there's any particular tricks to promoting and leveling up my people.

From my experience so far, it seems like hunting is super useful (you always need food, and the ability to either gather it or keep it from rotting is always helpful), while herbalism is quite a bit less useful (herbs don't rot, so you can take your time crafting them into medicine and apart from that, I'm not sure what herbalism's good for), so my hunters and doctors specialize in hunting. I have my one scholar dedicated to tinkering, while my soldiers and scouts are devoted to guarding and patrolling, respectively, and all upgrade points get funneled accordingly.

Is that pretty much on the mark, or will this strategy bite me in the rear end later on? Anything else I should be looking out for?

As for combat; ranged weapons seem poo poo, because unlike melee weapons, they can miss and are affected by darkness, so I'm not quite sure where hunters fit in on the battle map. Soldiers, scouts, and doctors appear to rule the day. Is that about right?

General
- Always attack as a team. Once you've played for a while, you'll understand how to play solo. Even then you should attack as a team.

- Attack the enemy's res points. Even if you have to go alone.

- Listen to your commander. They see more than you do.

- Buy a loving mic and use it. The bare minimum of communication can mean the difference between winning and losing.

Marines
- Buy a god drat welder. They cost 3 res and are very useful.

- Don't run backwards. You move at half speed and are very easy to kill.

- Jump physics don't work like you would think they do. When you jump you keep all of your momentum and can spin in mid-air to shoot things.

- When someone is building watch their back instead of helping them build.

- When mines are researched buy at least one set. They will one-shot a skulk without carapace. Lay them around buildings and chokepoints.

- Only one person needs to stay behind at the start to build. Everyone else should spread out and take as much territory as fast as possible.

Aliens
- Run on the walls whenever possible as a Skulk. Get used to jumping off walls and objects for a speed bonus.

- Mutating Gorge right when the game starts and dropping a tunnel in base and somewhere else is really useful. Be aware marines can use them too.

- When putting down Clots as a Gorge, try not to completely wall off a doorway. Some of the bigger Aliens will be stuck on the other side if you do. Putting them down on Hydras protects them and the Hydras can shoot over them.

- Be aggressive. The Marines are much better at defending than you are. If you don't understand why, just wait until what should have been a 15 minute game goes on for 45 minutes instead because of a Marine turtle.

If you have any more questions the Natural Selection 2 thread can answer them.

First, you should know it is a hardcore arpg'ers arpg. Min/maxing, learning the ins and outs of some complex systems, and learning the passive tree will go a long ways. If you were the type to memorize breakpoints in Diablo 2, you've found your dream game. But it can still be fun on a more casual level -- you'll just have more difficulty in the endgame.

Your first character will probably not be viable. It's not a big deal, because the most valuable currency can drop from the beginning of the game. I've found more exalted orbs (the most valuable "frequently" used currency) in Act 2 of Normal difficulty than in the rest of the game combined. So even starting over isn't that bad -- you'll always be improving your wealth, and you'll have the items in your stash to help your progress that you found with earlier characters.

Take more life and defensive nodes in the passive tree than you'd be otherwise inclined to, even taking this sentence into account.

Use your first character to try out lots of skills and find out what you want to build for a long term character. Just have fun and mess around. Ask any specific questions in the Path of Exile thread.
