i enjoy going to touristy areas in san francisco and having the restaurant inform me that I should tip the server and that the 12% service charge is separate for a country that really really hates taxes and would rather poor people die, they somehow managed to make you feel like abitch loser if you dont tax yourself every time someone treats you like a human being

The Great Autismo! posted:if you want an ice coffee just get a regular coffee and a cup of ice. they cost the same but you can almost get two full iced coffees out of your hot coffee because the ice takes up so much space. good tip if you're chilling in Starbucks for a summer afternoon getting work done or reading or w/e. The iced coffee at Starbucks is brewed double strength to take into account melted ice. Your trick costs half as much but you're getting half the caffeine. Of course, when you order an ice coffee in Asia the barista is going to be a dick and give you an iced Americano instead. I have no idea why, because it actually takes more work to pour the espresso. Fleta Mcgurn posted:Holy poo poo, are you serious? Full disclosure, the only JJB I ever went to was SpaLand, so it was fancy and had lots of foreigners. Also I took my glasses off whenever I was naked so that I couldn't see anyone who might be staring at me. Just thank god that you didn't understand what they were saying. We might have visited at least 20 different JJBs all the way from Dongducheon, to Busan. You get a wildly different experience at some of them, but what I posted was pretty typical for your average, middle of the road 4-floor facility. We've been in some that were (unfortunately for us) 100% segregated, and others that only segregate the change/shower/hot-tub rooms and even have coed sleeping rooms. What is 100% certain of all of them, is that foreign guys are going to have some adjoshi come over and in no subtle way examine your hog. Foreign girls will get a similar experience from some granny who wants to check out your curly bush "Is it permed?". Unfortunately for my wife everyone thought that she was Korean so a trip to the hot tub was an 80% chance of getting groped. One girl from the US who learned Korean in under a year said that going to the JJB was a horrible experience because all any of the Korean women ever did was very loudly, and obviously talk about her the whole time she was there (and by talk about, I mean endlessly pick apart every single feature on her body in excruciating detail). Fleta Mcgurn posted:They didn't care about my tattoos, either. Huh. I'm surprised! Isn't that more of a Japan thing because tattoos=Yakuza? For some reason there is a total blank in my memory when it comes to tattoos in Korea. Probably because I don't have any and it never came up.

Blistex posted:Just thank god that you didn't understand what they were saying. I'm sure they did talk poo poo, but one of the reasons I never bothered learning much Korean is because I didn't want to know things like that. I got enough from the VP who would visit my classroom every day and tell me if I looked fat or not that day. (Interesting to note that I looked "fat" whenever I didn't wear something form-fitting...hmm...) And yeah, tattoos are not as bad a taboo in Korea. I never experienced any issues, whereas I did in Japan. I've heard that the stigma against tattooed foreigners has more to do with Russian sailors visiting Hokkaido and peeing in the public baths, but I have no source for this. It's a funny image, though, a little obaasan screaming and hitting a drunk guy who's just like "Shto?" e: Your pubes comment makes me wonder what they thought of my hardwood floors. I was busy with some work stuff for a few days, and came back to 300+ new posts in this thread. Too much! Bigly! I'll hit you up another time, China thread. Trying to get three immediate-deadline projects finished at once is making my brain hurt and I've lost all motivation for giving any care about China or how retarded it is. I think I've finally become Chinese in my heart. Next step: Public tantrums and a trailing cloud of diarrhea mouth.

angel opportunity posted:lol sounds like the waiter is getting an 8% tip from me iirc, the 12% service charge doesn't actually go to the servers. It's included because the restaurant can't forwardly raise prices without losing business and because of the absurd costs of everything in the bay area cannot afford to leave prices as they were. Jimmy Little Balls posted:Wait you guys tip taxi drivers? You already need to take a mortgage out to get a taxi in Western countries and you add to that voluntarily? Instead of paying people living wages we force the burden of paying people in a lot of professions onto the consumer. In almost any industry where tipping is allowed in the USA, employers are allowed to pay below minimum wage. America does it's best to gently caress labor as hard as possible and has for decades now. The people getting hosed are by and large anti-union because we've had a generation of anti-union propaganda supported by baby boomers that had amazing work stability, pay, and advancement thanks to their super strong unions.
