I'm most baffled by the shelves under regular rear end nice (copper) cooking hoods. Once again, and example for rich people kitchens that weren't meant to be cooked in. I'd oil the poo poo out of that shelf and everything on it inside of a couple of dinners.

The TV is on a different wall now-- where I'd like to do some sort of built in cabinets/bookshelves/entertainment center thing, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to that.

I installed them myself. THey're the "River" cork from Floor and Decor. I purchased them in early 2015, I think. They're warm under foot, I wouldn't call them soft, but they aren't hard like tile.

They've held up alright. I have two cats that run around and have scratched the floor a bit from their claws, but you'll never notice it unless you really look from it at a shallow angle with a lot of light across the floor. I do like that part a lot. The engineered hardwood floors samples I got chipped/damaged very easily just from dropping something like your keys.

I put three coats of water based floor poly on top of them after I installed them. The surface is already sealed, but I had read that people did this to prevent any spills from seeping into the floor at the joints. I would've hoped that the poly would also prevent fading or UV damage from sunlight, but the floors are lighter in color around my back door where a lot of sunlight comes in.

I wonder if I should've used a oil based poly, but I have no idea if i would've had adhesion issues and i hear they dry really slowly and stink horribly. The water based poly was super fast/easy to use.

I think if I were to do it again, I might choose some kind of LVP just for a more "wood" like flooring, since I think this particular cork is harder to match things to, but for the price I liked it over the engineered hardwood click lock floors that I saw available. The idea of a gluedown engineered hardwood floor seemed a little spooky to me and also, the glues seemed expensive, but in the end I think with underlayment the price per square foot was probably similar to a glue-down.

If I were to go with a floating cork floor again, I think I would get a pattern/texture/style that's closer to this:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/natural-floors-11-81-in-Natural-Cork-Engineered-Hardwood-Flooring-22-99-sq-ft/3172665
Or this:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Heritag...F9656/204754133

It still has variation in color, but it's not as 'loud', and looks almost like a stone texture.

Okay I have finished painting and I'm quite tired. Pictures aren't very good here because my camera sucks and makes it look much more purple than it is. But here's a summary and I would like your thoughts

1) HOLY poo poo THIS IS BRIGHT. Well not really, but after having a super dark brown wall with like a 5 LRV it's obviously noticeable.

2) Near the lighting on the right side, it has more of a baby blue look (I have four 60 watt LEDs, but with that frosted poo poo which mutes them a ton). Away from the lighting it gets a bit more purplish and darker looking.

3) The shower curtain isn't going to cut it anymore (the one that was brown and green-blue/teal-ish). Maybe dark brown and white?

4) I'm thinking the left wall which gets the most light should have some darker brown on it to offset. For example I could move my dark brown medicine cabinet there from the middle above the toilet.

5) How will changing the lighting affect how the paint looks? Would something with adjustable lights so I can get some light on the shower side be good? I only have one lighting hookup which is above the sink.

Hi guys, I’d wonder if you can give me some advice. We’re looking to make a bathroom bigger, as there’s wasted space the other side of the wall we’re knocking down. The previous owner put on an extension, but they didn’t do anything to the old roof, they just boxed it in. So we’ve got about 2 meters we can gain by throwing money at it.

We’ve got an architect, so have some snazzy drawings. But we’re struggling to find a layout that we like. We’ve got 4 kids, so a large accessible bath is a must, we’d like a separate shower (but not averse to an over bath shower), because this will become their main bathroom when they’re bigger. We’d like to not have the John as the focus when you come into the room.

I’ve attached the drawings to give you an idea of the room size. The orange line in the plan view is the old size of the room, so we’re really gaining space.

In the elevation view you’ll see there was a structural beam going in, that was to support a cast iron bath, that thankfully I’ve managed to talk my wife out of. As it weighed half a ton empty.

We’d appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

The Finnish equivalent is "jugend", from the German "jugendstil."

It's just too bad many of these interiors have been remodeled several times over, leaving the fireplace as the only standing piece of the original design.

What's the goal of separating shower and bath? Are you hoping they'll be used at the same time? Because that doesn't sound like a great plan.

I'd prioritize much more counterspace and storage space, maybe even two sinks. I don't know the gender breakdown, but as they get older, there will be a lot more styling time either way. I'd also suggest more than one towel rod for 4 people.

Shower-bath combos are annoying to use as showers. They're also more dangerous. You have to climb over the edge of the tub to get in, you're at greater risk of slipping and falling, because there's more open space and the surface of a tub isn't as slip resistant as a shower floor. Plus where a decent shower will have a stall and a door, with a tub you have to make do with a curtain, so you get water everywhere.

Its easy to make a tub with a glass door, if that’s what you want.

And you’re just as likely to fall getting into the tub, which you still have, even if it is separate.

I have almost always added more towel racks and storage cabinets to bathrooms.

What about turning the new space into a half-bath instead. 4 girls in one bathroom is tight. Having an extra toilet+sink doubles your pooping throughput.

I kind of want to get one of those glass doors to go above the tub now. I have the same issue with a shower curtain. The inner curtain has some weighting on the bottom but I just can't get it to stick to the point that it fully covers the opening to the floor. so I just have a towel on the floor.

Part of the problem though is because I can't angle my shower head down enough because it hits the shower caddy. Probably should just get a different caddy hah

edit: I decided to just hack off the top holder on the caddy (there are two). Much cheaper than having a shower door installed :p

With regards to my paint (and basically it not looking as grayish as the sample when I put the sample right on top of it), I'm wondering if the super dark brown paint is affecting this. For now I tried painting another layer in a square to see if it changes. If the dark brown was affecting the appearance, what kind of effect would I expect? Since a dark brown has about half the red, green and blue values, I assume the result color would be closer to my new paint, but with lower RGB values?

edit: the part with the second layer looks the same after drying.

I'm just trying to figure out why the paint looks less gray then the sample. It's one of those notecard size samples like they have at the store. If I put it on the wall it's clearly different than the paint.
