Dr. Lunchables posted:For all that nonsense about the FiST not having enough cargo space I say: move the cargo tray down a level. Bam! 5 sq ft more space. Doesn’t solve the seats not folding flat, but that’s due to the ST seats having more bolstering. Don’t know if this has been mentioned or not and it’s not a solution if you need to use the rear seats for passengers, but in the Euro version at least, if you remove the rear seat base the seat backs fold flat AFAIK

The rear seat bottom on the Focus folds forward, you'd think the Fiesta would have the same provision.

It doesn’t. Other fiesta trims do. It’s stupid.

Since my GTI basically killed itself, I've spent a lot of time and money getting the old mini back to road ready. Was going to sell it back in the day, but I'm blessing my laziness now. New battery, full fluid flush and oil change, tire rotation, and some more poo poo they discovered while doing the maintenance. Out about a g, but the 08 with 87k miles is back in action! Better than the 7k is going to take to get the VW back up and running. With the price of used vehicles these days I'll fix it. Eventually. Edit: poor mini sat outside for something like two years. Got it washed, but she needs a legit detail at this point.

Cool cool, just got rear-ended pulling into a restaurant parking lot Got an 8:30 inspection appointment at the same shop that fixed it when my sister backed into my wheel arch and I have every confidence that they'll take care of everything and do a bangup job, but it still sucks poo poo

Oh no! You’re a fellow FiSTer too right? That’s a drat shame The good news is that the skeleton is made out of poo poo heap, so it oughta be cheap(ish) to get a new bumper and clips.

I’ve noticed some excess lateral rocking over crummy nyc roads in my tsx. What suspension components should i look at to make sure they’re working alright?

How old are the shocks and struts? That would probably be my first check.

I put a new set of Tein coilovers on last year. Over smooth roads, they ride great, but going over rutted city roads at low speed is when I notice lateral rocking. The tire diameter is also slightly smaller than oem equivalent, so that may be a contributing factor?

Nodoze posted:How much did you snag this for? This is pretty much the only circumstance I'd buy one since you can't trust these cars with dumb PO's It was 10k, which I was a bit conflicted about. On one hand, it's a 15 year old turbo. On the other hand, it's a bit of a unicorn because it was owned by an older guy who took incredible care of it. I found two others near me over the course of a month when I was looking. One had 115k miles, was from the north, wasn't in as good of shape and was listed for 11.5k. The other had 70k miles and was in really rough cosmetic shape and was listed for 12k. And then KBB had this one valued at 10k, for whatever that's worth. I'm really glad I ended up getting it because it makes me happy every time I drive it and it's so pretty to look at edit: I named it Gandalf because it's old and white Ehud fucked around with this message at 11:24 on May 23, 2024 |

I think this counts as a hot hatch, as vintage and rare as these are. An 80s Chevrolet Sprint Turbo. Someone I know just checked and there are only 223 known to still exist. I spotted this one while on a walk around my neighborhood, a few days ago.

Dr. Lunchables posted:The fit is all about practicality. If you’re willing to sacrifice that for fun, the next step is the Fiesta ST. Same segment, roughly the same size, but a hell of a lot more torque and power. As someone who dailies a FiST and briefly owned a Veloster N, I endorse this message. Just take the drat cargo tray out. Its only function is to make it harder to see what's in your trunk so unless you're hauling expensive electronics through bad neighborhoods on the regular it's not necessary. From the Fit to the FiST your main trade off is fun vs. comfort, with a side of availability. The FiST has a very stiff suspension so you feel every bump, especially on New England roads. The stock non-recaro seats also objectively suck. (For reference, I'm female, 5'4" and about a buck eighty.) There are mods you can do, such as going down a size in wheels, that help a lot with ride feel. Finding a reasonable FiST might also be a challenge. Many are going to either have mods you don't want/need or have been mistreated. Not much to say about the N, as I didn't have mine long (6 months or so). It has much better creature comforts and fit and finish than the FiST. It has less of a go-kart feel to it, but it handles great and is satisfyingly zippy. The only problem I had with mine was a known issue with the e-brake. You'll have the same problem finding a clean one as you do with the FiST. I would caution you to consider your use case when it comes to getting a stick or not. Not sure where you are in MA, but if you're going to be in stop and go traffic daily, a manual is not fun. I'm a hardcore manual enthusiast but if I lived in metro Boston I would think long and hard about buying a stick to commute. My late husband bought a Mustang in 2012 right before we got stationed in DC and thoroughly regretted getting the manual. They're WAY more fun to drive in most situations and I am in no way discouraging you from learning stick or even buying a manual, just know that one downside is heavy traffic.
