Oh that drat red line... Newbie questions incoming:

A month ago, I decided to try to rededicate myself to NL Holdem. NL was only my focus for a few years in college, before I ended up finding comfort in LHE (and some O8 as well).

Every once in awhile, I'd read a book on NL and try MTTs, SNGs, full ring cash. I never did great and I never stuck with it. To make a long story short, I figured in late July to do something with the small cash I had on Carbon. I focused on 6Max NL .02/.04 and .05/.10, mostly the former. Through my first 15000 hands, I ran really absurdly well (20BB/100). The last 15000 hands have slowed down considerably, but I really have no idea what my true winrate will be as I feel like I'm still wearing off that run good. One thing that's bugging me considerably is that downward sloping red line (Non-Showdown Winnings).

My question for you NL gents is how much should I focus on it? I've tried to figure out how I can flatten it. Some ideas are two barreling more (though maybe that's bad as people in micro like to call!), analyzing my CBETs (I CBet a whole lot), and certainly playing low to mid pockets softer.

What are your thoughts? Something to focus on? Should I instead be focusing on the simple stuff?

The green line is the important one. Don't worry too much about your red line right now. Your opponents are making a lot of mistakes and if one of them is calling too much it will negatively affect your red line. Instead of looking at your red line and think I should make this better; think about situations or opponents that you think you can get to fold better. As you get opponent ranges and thought processes better defined you'll better be able to improve your red line.

For newbies:
Green line is total profit. Blue line is money won at showdown, after the river when you see who has the better hand. Red line is money won without showdown meaning someone folded before the river.

you should probably have a downward sloping red line at micros.

players will play a lot more honestly and call you down more.

You shouldn't feel like you are working off the rungood because rungood and runbad are just parts of your results. It's not like you're going to rungood some and runbad some and run regular most of the time. Also SD and non-SD aren't important. Just play hands as good as you can and focus on getting better at that.

Here is the thing people dont' get about redline/blue line

And I didn't think of it either until I read about it in Analytical Hold'Em so don't feel bad

Okay, so suppose you have 9 people playing EXACTLY THE SAME at a table, and they play 1 billion hands.

Over time, even though their winrate should converge to 0 (not including rake), they will have an infinitely positive blue line and an infinitely negative red line.

Why is this?

Well, here's a hint: If they were playing heads-up, this would not be the case. Their red line, blue line, and winrate should all converge at 0.

Because of multiway pots though, you will lose money from your redline that you won't get added back to your redline when the situation comes up in your favor.

The situation is this:

Suppose you are in a multiway pot, and you fold before the showdown. Your red line decreases. However, the other two players go to showdown, and the winning player's blue line increases, not his red line.

Now, the exact same situation comes up vs you and two other players, except your hands are rotated. Now you are the showdown winner. Even though you made one player fold and won money FROM HIM without showdown, all the money will be counted as money won at showdown. Your blue line will increase, not your red line.

I hope this will make people who play full ring or in situations where there are commonly multiway pots worry a little bit less about their redline/blueline.

Whew, what's up guys?

Unfortunately I missed the whole PITR closing ordeal. I was out of the country with only my Blackberry for internet access(and very limited access at that). I didn't know the forum was closing down beforehand, and I only knew about it when EPG and a couple of PITR guys PM'd me about it. When I received about 6 PM e-mails within 20 minutes, I knew something was up :(

It's just one of those things where if there is a need for a forum, SA will open one. So it's a case of us all just actually posting a lot more. I'll see about running some GSOPs soon again as well.

Hopefully this'll encourage a lot more posting. I know I keep meaning to do some Stud instructional videos again but never got around to it.

I was super short (3bb at one point) from like 20 people onward and basically folded my way into the chip chop.

So get this, we get to the final table 10 handed and this guy spews off a bunch of his chips to someone he is friendly with and gets up and just starts swearing as he walks away. He starts shouting gently caress and the whole casino can hear him shouting gently caress repeatedly so he gets a 2 round penalty. He says "You might as well just loving disqualify me" and a few hands later the floor came back around and said he was going out 10th and his chips would stay on the table and he'd be blinded off.

Which was obviously sick for me since i just jumped a pay spot for free. gg idiot

Welp I managed to bust the $700 WCOOP in the very last hand before day 1 ended! Got in 9T on 8xT9 and villain had QJ :( Probably should have just folded pre and taken just over 35bb into day 2 but at the tail end of a 17 hour session I think the temptation to win the last pot got the better of me. LESSONS FOR NEXT TIME!

On the plus side I won the $30 1R1A and cashed in the Sunday $500, Sunday $100r, and the $215 WCOOP and finished the day up over $6k :)

I've got a friend looking to play Omaha H/L PL$50-$100 around prime-time EST time. Non-US. However he also wants to be able to combine the account with a sportsbook, so Pokerstars is out. Do Merge/Cake/iPoker etc have any good action around that time? I keep meaning to look but I forget.

The UK megathread is full of angry revolutionaries who vent their frustration by overblowing the slightest deviation from THE CORRECT OPINION which only manages to alienate people who actually agree with them on 90%+ of issues. Because we all know constantly calling people shitheels and frothing at the mouth for public executions of the rich is going to help matters.

And yes, tipping culture in America is damaging and condescending to the staff there.

Sorry that you don't "get it" but if you do get dogpiled in there it's almost certainly because you said something incredibly stupid. The talk of public executions/gulags/going against the wall is tongue-in-cheek though (except for Shakey Beef who does want to put everyone against the wall).
