How does the "two teams of four" work in multiplayer?

Are the two teams on opposing sides? Do you ever dogfight human pilots? Or is it all coop vs AI?
It's all coop vs the AI. You get points for killing things (more points for tougher targets, and the radar symbols are colored according to value so you don't have to guess) and the two teams basically race to see who can get more points.

Also when you target something there are pips indicating how many people from your team or the other team are targeting the same thing, so you can try to steal peoples' kills or avoid having your kills stolen. It's all pretty cleverly implemented on top of the traditional AC 4-6 gameplay.

Been playing this for a few days now, psn is rbo818 if anyone sees me online and wants another goon to run with. I'm digging the throwbacks to the PS2 era games. I've always preferred playing ground attack in high speed aircraft, so I like the F4G, but this Desert Rock F16 is just too much fun. Somehow I managed to score 55k in Tokyo with the drat thing still at level 1 and only a tail actuator equipped. :stare:

Are there any alternate skins for this thing, or is it waiting for Namdai to release something other than tiger stripes?

Apparently Avalon Dam site/v2 control facility wasnt found until its too late because the entire facility was hidden under the dam and covered with water at all time, so in June 20th 1995, no weapon inspector found anything in the area. It wasnt until the day of launch, they expelled the water and the facility was exposed.

IIRC, Aces at War was only available as part of the JP special edition of Assault Horizon, which is an interesting choice since the book exclusively covers the previous games/Strangereal stuff.

Welp game only lets me join like 1/30 rooms and I'm not into spending 40 minutes looking at a "failed to join the room" message so I guess I'm out. Call me when they've fixed the netcode.

(It's weird, all the other online games I have on my ps3 routinely give me 2-3 bars out of 4 for my connection, but this one gives me the grayed-out 0 bars with a slash through em whenever I manage to get in a room. I don't have any lag and the thing runs fine when it actually wants to let me in so )

Maybe I'll give Zero another chance in the meantime. I only ever played through it once and I remember being mildly disappointed coming off 4 and 5, but better than this!

E, vvv the latter, sadly.

Well I'm at 1st Lieutenant and I got it, and I'd be surprised if you haven't reached that rank yet. The drop rate for it seems pretty low though, I only got it 2 days ago and I usually get in at least three games a day.

RE: Moby Dick Pursuit III

quote:

Similar to the other Moby Dick Pursuits, the only objective in this mission is to destroy the Aigaion-class heavy command cruiser. The one that appears here is colored gold and is armed with numerous laser units that fire lasers consistently in a sweeping pattern. They fire at all angles in all directions from the cruiser, meaning all players flying close are vulnerable to laser fire. Additionally, the lasers will shoot down all player ordnance (exactly like the MQ-90Ls), so machine guns are the best way to destroy the laser units. The laser units do give the players one advantage: this cruiser does not carry Nimbus cruise missiles.

Do the missile upgrades make a huge difference, or is there a trick to getting your missiles to hit more reliably that I'm unaware of?

I am pretty terrible at air combat in general, which is pretty important in a game focused around planes. However I'm sticking around because I'm having a much better time with attackers. I'd ultimately like to get an A-10 but I'm hoping my floundering around doesn't impede my progress to the point where I get burnt out and quit before that happens.

They make a difference which is greater the more parts you equip. You can also change your datalink effect to give your missiles greater homing as well. It adds up until you find yourself reliably hitting the F35's, F22's and T50's in emergency missions.

Basically to hit planes fire from the rear ~180 degrees behind them, don't launch missiles when an enemy plane is in a sharp turn, and pay attention to what kind of target it is. A yellow plane on the radar will be so dumb you can often fire missiles at them from any angle and score hits. Orange planes are not much better, and if you are anywhere behind them you are almost guaranteed a kill. Reds and SP/TGT planes are where it gets tricky, and in those cases I'd say fire from close range (~3,000 or so), only when they're going straight ahead, and watch very carefully because a lot of times when it seems like they're going straight they're actually pulling really tight-rear end Immelmans that will make your missiles miss.

would also add that do a lot of fire and forget, if you get a good angle and launch the missiles, go for the next target immediately instead of waiting for visual confirmation.

Also the correct way to go through a bunch of tall buildings is to not try to twist and turn.

Slow down and hit your targets. Keep your thumb on the guns. Then go straight vertical and loop around screaming towards the ground, braking and spamming missiles. Repeat.

Unless you're using SAAMs. But you can actually fire two of them at different targets and they'll both hit as long as both targets are inside the targeting circle.

ninjahedgehog posted:

I miss the days when I could launch an SAAM early and worry about locking on later, or redirect one if my intended target got killed by someone else, because that keeps loving happening here.

Targeting two guys at once with them isn't even that useful anyway, because two guys sticking that close usually would be easy pickings for standard missiles or guns, too, and if you know getting in close enough for that would waste too much time then some jerk on the other team with 4 or 6AAMs is probably going to get them first anyway.

That said, I took the F-15C with SAAMs to Aerospace Center Defense just now and ended up MVPing with 50,000 points and an A rank overall. Even taking into account how I used the above trick on the B-2's during the emergency mission and killed at least a third of them myself, I'm not quite sure how I did that.
