Basically, if it's not another player Helldiver, don't stand next to it. Dropping lots of turrets is fine as long as you remember to go prone.

Not sure if this has been stated explicitly but anyone buying this game with hopes of doing PS4/PS3/Vita cross-play with friends be aware that PSN has no cross-platform "join my friend" functionality. Sony just never coded it.

PS3, PS4 and Vita can all play together and voice chat and all that happy horse poo poo but if you're thinking that on your Vita you'll be able to go to the Friends list in-game and join your buddy on PS4 you are going to be disappointed. If you're willing to go through the trouble you can coordinate to join the same public room and play that way cross-platform. Hopefully someone thinks of a work around, I don't think Sony is going to update all 3 platforms to add the functionality.

edit: However:

Anyone know at what rank the assault rifle with higher damage and ap ammo gets unlocked?

The laser gun primary is a neat little thing. Baseline it's kind of pissweak but once you get the upgrades rolling it becomes a infinite ammo death hose. So long as you feather the trigger and don't ride it too hard you effectively never have to reload and there's no bullet spread so you're way less likely to murder friendlies.

The upgraded auto shotgun is also really good, but hits an issue where when you friendly fire, you instantly murder the poor fucker who you mistook for a cyborg who got in your firing line, they usually don't even go into downed state.

Also everyone should try and unlock the Mech suit as soon as possible. It's basically a bootleg Warhammer 40k Dreadnought and it loving wrecks up the place.

Has anyone figured out what level you unlock the lightning gun at? That seems like it's going to be a fun gun for unfortunate friendly fire incidents indiscriminate slaughter :black101:

I initially thought any one-handed weapon meant it could be your sidearm but I guess it's only ever going to be the Pistol. I suppose the one-hand weapons are safeguards for missions where you need to carry Black Boxes?

You can also use one handed weapons when you are downed.

It's actually more useful than you think, it's just that the initial SMG isn't terribly good. The one handed shotgun should be a significantly better one handed weapon.

I'm actually kind of pleased that there isn't much griefing or trolling when occasionally jumping into random games, I guess there doesn't seem to be much of a point to it. Multiplayer in general is pretty good even if other players don't have a mic. Mostly just directing dudes with the "Move" command seems to work.

There was one match though where the dropship came and a guy shot two of the teammates dead, then got squashed by his own dumb calldown. I left as the only living one left.

-One guy dead, throwing the beacon then politely waiting in a nearby APC for him to drop so he can hop in. The pod veers several feet off course, destroying the APC and killing everyone. "Oh no, I'm so sorry!"

-Any time artillery/mines are used

-Whenever you open up with machine guns your guy shouts "EAT FREEDOM"

-The news ticker showing friendly fire saying "Helldivers face horrible death at the hands of bugs. So far 38893 Helldivers have been spared by their comrades."

Oh my god, that is the best propaganda doublespeak.

I had a great one playing last night with 3 other goons, I know RadValtar was one but I can't remember the others names:

We drop into a (I believe) Difficulty 5 mission right on top of a pair of bug patrols that immediately call for reinforcements. poo poo is popping off right off the bat and we're all scrambling to call in our machine guns and extra ammunition. One of the goons (I think RadValtar) shotgunned another goon and killed him instantly. Immediately after him and the third goon got crushed by heavy weapons pods, and I got swarmed and eaten by bugs before I could call reinforcements.

Total time from deploy to the failed mission screen: About 20 seconds.

This is too much fun, being mic'ed up should be mandatory. The game really shines on the harder difficulties. I had the best feeling calling in a drop ship as everything just went to hell with like 3 big tank bugs spawning. When it finally landed and I ran into it I felt like I was in starship troopers for sure.

Is it just me imagining things or can buglings destroy your thrown pods before ammo/gun drops come to it? I swore once that a swarm of bugs ate up a thing I threw before the turret came down. Similarly I'm not sure if I've seen any bugs put a turret out of commission yet, though I've seen them disable a hellbomb before I got to arm it.

I can't seem to get pubbys to fill up my games when I start playing with someone on my friends list. If I join a random pubby from the matchmaking session, then the game fills up in no time, but starting from a friend's ship seems to disable matchmaking. Our settings definitely seem to say "Public", but no one ever joins.

Yeah that was a ton of fun, the funny thing about that wipe was that we had generally been doing really well at not killing each other before that. Really wish I had been able to properly record that because the timing on all those deaths was basically perfect but when I went in to the upload thing later the clip was only of the end of mission screen.

Richardson agrees
It seems that the required number of event points to win a city defense event is geared towards having a hundred thousand players online, if not more. There were over 7k people online according to the PS4 number earlier, and the progress bar only filled up around 5%. Hopefully this is a bug and the devs tweak things a bit, otherwise this game is unbeatable with the current player base.

Also, level 12 difficulty city missions are insanely fun.
