It's hard to keep a campaign focused, especially in longer ones. I notice episodes of our campaign games tend to get fewer comments and discussion than one shots. However, don't listeners want well-role played PCs, which is harder to pull off in shorter games? I wonder if RPPR should focus more on shorter games or not.

A vexing dilemma.

I can imagine a part of comment drop off in campaigns is because we get know the characters in long form games, all the little quirks and such are very notable in the early sessions but it'd be tedious for everyone if every episode the comments were like "Wow [player] is doing [character gimmick] again! So crazy!" :v:.

With short campaigns and one-shots we don't really get that adjustment period to get used to someone's character or the setting so something like a character running off and getting killed an hour or two in has a lot more "hype" impact and makes you want to join the hubbub about it. In a longer term campaign when a character you've grown to like gets offed or does something amazing there's certainly more of an emotional impact there, but it doesn't send me sprinting to my keyboard to be like "OMG YOU GUYS!" haha.

I personally enjoy your longer term campaigns the most, but the short stuff is a nice dessert from time to time. I really enjoy the structure the long games offer y'all.

I'm probably alone on this, but on a lot of campaigns I will wait until the post mortem comes out before I decide if I want to listen to the game, because it's hard to maintain enthusiasm when the party goes into their inevitable waffling and plot avoidance. I don't think this is a GMing problem, just an inherent issue with an improvised medium. Anecdotes also help a lot with this because it gives me something to look forward to in the APs. This is also a reason I like games Caleb is in, because something is gonna happen, no matter what it takes.

The post mortems also let me identify characters and who's playing them, because it can be hard to tell people apart or remember who's running each character, especially as the amount of people playing expands
I don't know if it's realistic, but maybe if there were more jumping on/off points in longer campaigns? Like if there had been a short post mortem between the locales in Masks, it would have helped a lot to keep the plot threads together. Right now I'm stuck in Kenya in Masks because listening to Bill, Sean, and Aaron try to shake point pools out of local tribesmen is incredibly boring, and until the post mortem comes out I don't have anything to look forward to. I'm sure there's great stuff coming up, but I'm listening to try and not be bored at my job, and there're other things that will do that for me.

On the other hand I don't care about spoilers at all while a lot of people do, so this may not be the case for anyone else.

Some of the best moments of Campaign have nothing to do with the story at all. Like in the recent arc when they're just naming bounty hunters.

"Ok so that's like ten guys..."

"Yea, but it feels like Traitor is gonna be on our side..."

My favorite part of the recent side-episode was James trying to twist it so that everyone on planet had strange ideas about librarians. "...but now strong librarians are here to help me!"

Also super into various Sneak and Tubaik gang bounty hunters only saying their names.

Campaign is seriously fantastic. One Shot is really good too but the campaign format really allows for poo poo like running gags and character quirks to develop and add a whole different layer of greatness.

I'm still going through Campaign, started in like September, but I decided to skip the Christmas episode (from 2014 I think) until closer to Christmas, which ended up being on a drive to CA last week, and I immediately wanted to drop what I was doing to go find out what episodes all the visitors were in of One Shot to check them out (although I was stuck in traffic so couldn't actually do that). Even in short little vignettes they create really interesting characters.

It is very good.

I'm pretty excited about this game. The rules for social interactions like during that job negotiation, the dice mechanic, the steady attrition of resources (both physical and mental!) all sounded super cool. The Enclave creation segment alone had me wanting to reach into my wallet and fund it already.

And the plots are something I'm never going to be able to match, but Caleb did say there's going to be a lot of generation mechanics included in the game. So hyped.

We easily have over a dozen recorded sessions of Red Markets that will be posted. Does anyone know of any other RPGs that have had their playtests recorded and posted online before their Kickstarter campaign? I can't think of any and I think the novelty will help it out. Plus we have the entire creation of the game system discussed on our podcast. It will be interesting to see if it has a big impact on the final KS campaign.

You can hop in at basically any of the Bonus Feats with no problem. They're mostly one shots, but some of them get 2 or 3 episodes to them, and they're a lot of fun.

If you want to hop in somewhere in LP 13th Age, episode 40 is probably the best jumping on point in the series. It starts a new arc and each character gets their own subplot in the Dwarven capital city, and it kicks off with some really funny episodes.

The most recent jumping on point would be episode 73, which starts off planning for our final cleanup tour of the realms to get our last MacGuffin before we shoot on up to the moon in our space rocket.

If you're like me and need far more podcast content that the internet can provide, the early 6 Feats stuff is still worth a listen. The Drakenhall hiest and the Hellhole casino are some of my favourite set pieces in the entire series. I think the 13th Age/Six Feats stuff is only like 3/4 years?

I outlined the plot as a macguffin hunt because I knew we'd be getting people asking this question down the line, and that structure would keep it acceptably episodic. I agree that session 40 is the start-of-arc episode that does the introductory thing best, but any of them do the job. The old episodes are steadily being added to the new site, and that process is up to the casino hellhole right now. My favorite feature of the new site is this timeline that helps summarize the whole thing and lets you choose your jumping-on point: http://www.sixfeatsunder.com/13th-age-the-rogue-elements/story

Again though, the Bonus Feats have great stuff, and the biggest of them is only three sessions.

Nope, the bonus content is all character creation episodes. I think we may have talked about doing AP as patreon content before but this Sunday was actually our first test of our new recording rig. We recorded two games of it and then kept both guests around for the next Afterthought.

Honestly I'm not sure how we will progress with AP. Gonna gauge audience interest first. Then we decide if it's monthly specials or what. Already have a pretty heavy schedule.

I'm taking a brief break from the One Shot Campaign podcast (which is absolutely fantastic, goddamn) to try to get back into Nerd Poker. I listened to the first 20 or so episodes of it back in like 2012/2013 and thought the group was really funny, but I didn't care for Sark's world with the Collectors (and how much they misunderstood 4E/didn't seem to care to actually play it as you're supposed to). Con:

-One tryhard screamy dude who almost ruins the entire thing with how annoying he is. He has the first episode (not counting the history one) to himself and almost turned me off the entire thing. Note- One of the women on the podcast was slightly irked in one episode about the primary focus being on her apparel by the GM when introducing her when there wasn't the same focus for the male actors and she had a 5 minute conversation about feminism with the GM on the podcast. Reddit blew the gently caress up because reddit and there's lots of negative crybaby bullshit about it online. So if you're looking for info about this online try to parse past that poo poo.

I have basically no use for Youtube as an audio source - I listen to most podcasts (and all APs, which I find require more focus to track) on my iPod classic at work and so I need it to be an actual audio file. If there were a video component (there was a game with Vincent Baker running Apocalypse World for John Harper and a couple other indie RPG luminaries that was filmed for Youtube, for example), that might get me to go to Youtube, but I'd still prefer an audio version on my iPod because I only have so much time to watch videos and that is also the time I could be playing videogames, watching other people play videogames, or maybe catching up on Netflix or whatever. Whereas audio content I can consume while working.
