One update in and this LP got me to finally sit down and play the drat game for a solid couple days instead of just giving it weird looks every time I pass it in my Steam library. It's uh, really good!! Looking forward to the rest of the LP, and what path Brad ends up taking in the hands of goonmanity compared to what choices I went with. It can only end well really

Putting on the finishing touches to this episode, expect an update tonight/tomorrow morning. Sorry for the delay, working on getting a new job and doing interview stuff. Episode 3 is already recorded and so is commentary so that probably won't take very long either.

Rip Terr Berr. Also I've always felt the weird dude was an oblique reference to Mother 3 cause his name's Lukas and he looks kinda like Lucas from that game. Could be just a coincidence though.

Hmmm... can we kill Nern? My video froze at one point and I didn't even notice because it was during one of his ramblings, and if that's not grounds for termination, I don't want to know what is.

Nah, let's keep Nern for a while. He's got some decent early game skillz. Better than Terry, at any rate.

You're gonna be sorry when they introduce a new game mechanic and you won't have anyone to explain it for you.

Eh, Terry is probably the best early party member just because of his ability to piss off enemies. It's a bit luck-reliant but makes a number of tough early fights go much more smoothly than they otherwise normally would. Punkert, for example; the negative effect of pissing enemies, increasing their damage, means nothing due to his already absurd damage output.

You monster, how could you get rid of the Hint King? Now who will new players get advice from? Oh, this is a great loss for humanity indeed.

For how obnoxious Nern is in-game, he's actually neat due to being a reference to an old (and apparently really bad) kung fu movie called "Fight Among Supers." Its a personal favorite of the developer of LISA and its a story about a fight between the God of Bowls and the God of Chopsticks. Might have to watch it myself someday to figure out how Nern is a reference to it.

Nern is probably the best support character in the game IMO, especially when paired with a TP character like Olan. In fact a lot of characters we get during Act I are TP characters so I'll most likely keep him around for a while. I really like his stupid stories though, the thing about the potato salad kills me.

gently caress Dale Spooner. Olan and Nern are both great characters that can take you far, there's maybe one character I like better than Nern for support.

Like you said, the first third of this game is far and away the roughest, and once you've gotten out of it every character is totally workable. If you use synergies you can just break the game over your knee. Also potato salad speech was kind of a turning point for me deciding this games comedy did it for me so I'm fond of the ol' goof.

You can actually game the system pretty heavily by not picking up anything, then after you encounter Collumbo and say to SAVE TERRY YOU ABSOLUTE MONSTER you just backtrack a bit and pick up the items you passed up on. You only really wind up missing out on some Joy, which sells for a good amount at this point in the game. And since folks like that... gentlemen... and his... friends... are just handing it out like candy, there's no reason not to!

That was cruel, VoD. I like it. And Nern's speech and the music that goes with it is probably my... Third favorite thing in the game.

You already spotted the Hulkster (who I guess never got over the whole Vice thing) but he isn't the only wrassler hanging around. As well as a pretty obvious luchador in Rage, Eagle and his friend are Hawk and Animal, The Road Warriors/Legion of Doom (what a rush!) I also figure Olan's surname comes from Hoyt Archery.

Was it actually supposed to be Olathe, Kansas? Like I live in KS and never made that connection, I just assumed it was a fictional nowhere. Also you're pronouncing it wrong then! please keep doing it I hope it pisses someone off

That was a beautiful ruse. This thread is such a goddamn goldmine, it's not even funny.
|
# ? Oct 20, 2015 15:12 |
Hehehe that was a great bait and switch. It's kind of funny really, you would think with how you can't trust anyone in the wasteland that even if you chose to save Terry he'd still end up dead, but our 'friend' I guess likes Brad enough to honor that choice unlike possibly anybody else in the wasteland. I hope there aren't any consequences for this later because that would undercut how cheap life is in general otherwise.

Well, I saw that coming. It's not so bad though, since the replacement party members seem like they're really good to compensate. What happens to extra party members when they're not in your team? Do they just sit in a pocket dimension until you need them, or do they still show up on the map?

That Joy-cult-thing is creepy. I'm thinking they're a reference to the cult in Earthbound.

I can tell this is going to be a fun LP. Honestly, I always hated Terry too, but I could never bring myself to get rid of him. On subsequent playthroughs I did that event before picking anything up.

I'm glad to see folks in here are not salty about this episode in the thread, considering the majority vote. Anyway, I noticed a poster in the bar that you briefly interacted with and it looked like some kind of Party member swapping thing for when you have more than 4 characters around, is that about right?
