i would drive the gently caress out of a W124 Mercedes if any still existed here. Certainly not a modern one. The W108s of the sixties cost more than contemporary Rolls Royce cars. RR has moved majorly upmarket since then.

No disagreements there. Old krautsleds are amazing, but you and I know that's not what people are buying or even considering. That being said, you gotta hand it to the W124 and related cars for being so good that the children of the people that bought them now line up to rent garbage cars with the same emblem on the hood as those old reliables.

The only complaints I've ever heard about W124s is that they were slow in diesel form and that the vacuum-operated door locks were prone to failure. Everything in the eighties was slow. When your big complaint is that you have to push the lock button manually, you know you've got a good car.

I'd comedy own a 4.2 v8 something if I had a standing offer for a tow company to pull it to a boneyard and crush it at no charge to me the second it broke down, as that's the more economical play with those enginesCitizen Tayne posted:i drive a Subaru. It's been a pleasant driving experience that does what it's supposed to do competently. Yep, just took a 120 mile jaunt up into the mountains this weekend in the forester and running great as always. We stayed the night in Idaho Springs at our favorite cheap tiny motel, and then ran up to Echo Lake this morning and had our coffee, then picked up a bunch of barbecue from a really good joint on the way home. Incidentally the most frequent cars we saw screaming up and down the mountain road at inappropriate speeds had, without exception, four rings in a row on the emblem and a 2.0t badge on their tailgate. And there were lambos and 911s out this morning.

Which is why they are exclusively driven by chauffeurs. If you own an S550 you sit in the back. if you lease, you drive it and constantly wave off fares trying to hire you

Pickups/SUVs are the new luxury cars as far as domestic manufacturers are concerned. Big, spacious, comfortable, with powerful high torque engines. They now have the added benefits of capability, practicality and reliability as well.

Pickups/SUVs are a market force because automakers realized they couldn't compete with foreign manufacturers and needed protectionist policies to keep market share. Trucks are demonstrably worse than cars for safety, but they have sold trucks as "safe" for years and have largely succeeded.
