You think that's illegal? Heh, watch this.
I think supply trucks should be able to repair tanks/reinforce infantry. Just galls me to throw away damaged infantry units and i liked how Wargame rewarded you for having good supply lines.

Also the Luftlande regiment has the strongest Phase A imo. You can drown everything in cheap MGs, PAKs, flammenwerfers and erzatstruppen.
Fallschirmjager are murderous but people are loving themselves by using them as their line units.

DD M4A1 Shermans and good infantry in phase A? Sounds good to me.

This game seems to address all my issues with Wargame, from needing a line of sight indicator to just a smaller scale of battle. Also the phases make deck building way less intimidating for my scrub self.

I came across this. My 3rd Armoured got wrecked in phase A by Luft support weapons out the wazoo. Later on I returned the favour in phase C with a horde of Shermans.

Kinds glad nanites are gone, personally.

Makes engagements matter more and makes a close fight less zero sum since losses and crits are permanent.

I think people would hate maglan in RD less if they couldn't be reinforced.

Had a 10v10 where I was holding a middle lane against, at one point, three different players worth of stuff. We were crushed, and I was basically fighting from right outside the spawn zone by the time Phase B started, but I did get the most kills (and took the second-most losses but hey)

important lesson learned: not having your AT positioned properly as LL sucks. as does facing three players worth of shermans and halftracks, which in part resulted from the first problem and was in part a contributing factor to it (having your Stugs repeatedly triple teamed is not good for their longevity)

I am a low APM bad with an aging and doddering brain, but I really like pretty much everything Eugen has done here even if it's taking me longer than you "kids" to wrap my head around it.

I kind of want to try a hard mechanized open with the HJ group -- use the Beef Panzer to back up a shitload of armored cars to just spearhead in somewhere and quickly back-fill territory with AT guns and chaff infantry.

I truly loved Ruse but I did not enjoy their later games. I am not sure exactly why,I can't put my finger on it. I felt kind of overwhelmed with the HUGE variety of units and very high number of units you had to control? Which is weird because I do enjoy complicated strategy games. How do I know what to pick from 40 different units which all look similar but are all tweaked a little different and, with a point buy and no guidance, decide what to pick from thousands of others?

Is there less variety in the number of units? Do you control less? Are the maps any smaller? Map size is not really a problem I guess. Ruse had huge maps and it is one of the best RTS games i've ever played.

That is encouraging I guess. Actions per minute is one way to put it. Are there less than their Wargames series? Wargames was not bad, it was greatly detailed and I liked the idea of it, but I just felt overwhelmed every time I tried to play.

Edit: To the extent I did play Wargames, I really enjoyed infantry because I could use them to try to hold down strategic choke points while everyone else did uh, other stuff. Are infantry fun here?

You can have variable map sizes

SDN44 is slow as gently caress and the unit variety is definitely pared down compared to Wargame. Furthermore, there is no 'general' deck like in wargame which reduces the choices even more once you've chosen a division. Unlike Wargame, you pick a type of army and have to accept the pros and cons of it, so you don't get to sift through every type of unit that exists in the game when deck-building.

Infantry are loads of fun in this game. You can absolutely focus on infantry plus support units and do just fine.

Nah, many cannot. You can see in the statcard of those that can will have an additional "smoke" version of the weapon.

I feel like recon is far less important this time around, and that instead maintaining effective leadership and organization is the new equivalent for it. Your units fight so much better with a leader around it's like night and day.

Compared to the highly connected, highly lethal battleground of WW3 I think that is also a thematically appropriate difference (even if only accidental).

It's definitely good for LL, that relies heavily on Henschels to take out tanks in a pinch, to be able to have guaranteed LoS on a tank at all times from recon units

Infantry have Medium optics as is, and on Pointe Du Hoc you're not getting multi hundred meter sightlines anyway. Recon feels pretty important for artillery and armor play, but there's a lot of infantry knife fights this time around.

You don't need recon to see things in the open, yeah. But you do need recon to see AT gun in trees before you are too close. Standard infantry won't spot AT gun in cover until 300m or so.

I love this game don't get me wrong I am a huge strategy fan and history fan but man the panther and panzer 4 and even stugs are so underpowered in this game. Panthers should be able to kill any allied tank at well over 1000 meters. Yet they do the opposite. Also they tend to miss more than they hit. And before you say I'm doing something wrong or I'm a noob believe me I'm not. I have a 80% win ratio in the wargame franchise and hundreds of hours of gameplay. And frankly most likely better than the majority of the current players in SD44. The German tanks need to be stronger to reflect their price in game. And ffs do something about tank accuracy in general.

That's my favorite thing about my Scottish deck, I have a bunch of universal carriers sitting around, so especially on Point Du Hac whenever someone pushes infantry across the front you can just roll up, spray them with MG for a bit and then cap them.
