this game was extremely good. great work on it. as a guy whos been posting on a dead web 1.0 forum for 20 years i think it captured the essence of that era really well

also, i've personally gone on archive.org to reminisce about my old deleted web pages. the ending is just way too real

You can, in fact, get a screensaver that makes things fly across your screen. It's not toasters, assumedly for copyright reasons, but yes, it is there in spirit.

This game is really amazing and I'm glad it exists. Feels like a perfect capture of an alternative universe late 90s internet experience including the dude raving about his grandparents lovely "tennis" game and how it was stolen.

I did the same thing! It felt like the appropriate thing to do. I just started over (wasn't aware there was a console), the game is pretty short if you know where to go after all.

Adding to the rest of the praise, I had a fantastic time with this game and I'll always be ready to shave.

Is there a way to read .hsp files from the game's source? I'd really like to make my own hypnospace page.

There's a PageBuilder and a Sequencer in the game's files. Jay has some tutorials and advice on the itch.io page (where you can also download the programs).

On the one hand, there's tons of potential for some fun User-Generated Content. On the other hand, there's probably gonna also be tons of lolrandumb memey poo poo and basically porn. So basically the modding scene of every game ever.

i think the problem with user generated content beyond whats stated is the hypnospace universe is a complete alternate reality so, you're depending on people being creative in that context and not making a page about bowsette or whatever the fotm is

This does not make sense when, again, aggregate indicia also indicate improvements. The belief that things are worse is false. It remains false.

I'm imagining like FPlus level documents of the cringiest poo poo imaginable. Like if someone just converted snips of the Digimon wiki into a .hsp format, I'm sure I'll be tickled by it.

Finished the game, loved it, it sure is a rollercoaster going from old people being mad about copyright to Coolfest '99 to the ending.

When I beat the game, it looks like it reset all my archived pages? Kind of makes me not want to go back and look for 100% archive completion. I never found Janitor or this HAP thing being mentioned in the thread.

I love all the minor details that are easily missed if you're not paying attention. Is this what Dark Souls Lore Analysis feels like? The founder of Fungus Scene is the founder of Coolpunk and he feuds with people who like Jan Wolf. WoodlandSprite2 wants you to enter her magical realm. Pretty much every commercial theme is done by Chowder Man. Late November Rebekah is 100% using ChitChat despite her father telling her not to. Tim's secret gumshoe gooper page.

I am in love with the game but man am I bad at actually solving the puzzles within and not just staring and smiling with agape nostalgia. The extreme hints are helpful to move me on a bit but even with those I have resorted to squinting and quickly scanning spoilers from here and the Steam forum for further assistance. I'm an idiot when it comes to these kind of games though.

I have been playing for hours and probably don't have the progress of others but this game puts me into that Civ fugue state and oops its 1AM and I'm still hunting for Goopers

I'm curious if there's a way to get the m1nx passwords on the first day. I got them after the alpha-crash easily enough and got in just fine, but then I reloaded a pre-crash save and used the same passwords and they worked, and had different information. Is this just an easter-egg / replay value, or is there a password for it pre-crash that I missed?

You can’t get them day 1 legit. There’s a good reason for the unique content on day 1, you’ll find out later.

I haven't finished my playthrough because I *did* come across the Janitor program and ran into a bug where it froze up and all the icons on the in-game desktop disappeared. Checked the steam forums and the devs posted that they're aware and aiming to fix it, but it's been two weeks and no patch yet :/

It's technically still playable using what's available in the drop-down menu, but that's frustrating & I only ran into the problem yesterday, so I'm holding off in hopes that they manage a fix soon.

Just finished the main plot of the game though there is still a ton I know I haven't seen. Really nailed the aesthetic it was going for. So far this has capped off a terrific month in games for me - baba pulled me away from apex, sekiro pulled me away from baba, and this managed to pull me away from sekiro. all of them are so fantastic that I feel genuinely bad I don't have enough time for them all

You think you can take me at Satan's Hollow? Go 'head on!
Owned this game since just after it came out, been sloooowly making my way through and it was charming but just didn't grab me. That is, until the Sovereign Alliance of Imagination and the whole mini-game that entailed. Everything leading up to that was cute, but I felt like the meat of the game kinda started there and you really had to put your thinking headband on. I also love that there are multiple ways to solve puzzles, and even a "good enough" password system. I watched a streamer play after I got to the Mind Crash, and there were puzzles where he entered different words for passwords or took a different approach. Like when you're trying to find the illegal music downloads, I found the culprit by just poking around until I settled on some guy who had a Glamocaster song on his page, and then entered his headband ID into FLST. The streamer figured out the culprit by noticing the "DM" on the FLST credits page, and figuring out it was Dylan Merchant.

Also, is there any need to go into M1NK? I just went straight to Tiff's page and looked in the FLST directory to find her nickname.

vv Ahh, 'k thanks. I figured it came back into play later but thought maybe it was just another solution to the Mind Crash puzzle. Also the game's amazing, I love it more the more I play it.

And yeah you'd need to get into m1nx to solve the game's final two story puzzles and get to the end & credits - tho there's a way to get to the end without solving them because I'm dumb and left a searchable tag in.
