How can i respond to a friend who constantly links Quillette articles? In particular https://quillette.com/2019/10/07/oikophobia-our-western-self-hatred/ Im reading through that and failing to see anything rational about it. Surely uf you have any empathy for others you can have issues with your culture? Hes a really good mate and always has been and I don't know what to say to him. lilbeefer fucked around with this message at 06:15 on Dec 3, 2019 |

This sort of knee jerk reaction isn't always the answer in my opinion. We absolutely get bashed senseless daily by bad opinions and lovely takes, but Ive known him my whole life. Hes a good dude that has good ideals, I just think he has been on Reddit too much. Like he is obsessed in his hatred for "outrage culture" and doesn't see the irony in that. I guess I'd rather he shift his concern to poo poo that actually matters, like our ridiculous political situation. I find it exhausting going through the articles and by the end of reading one I cant even be bothered responding

If you find a viable answer, I'm all ears. It's a common problem that I haven't really heard a good solution for yet. Especially regarding that exhaustion in trying to engage in good faith with very dicey and dog-whistle-y 'articles' etc, that's something I'm very familiar with. Well I read the first paragraph of the quilette article and got dumber as a result. I mean gently caress the anecdote they use as evidence doesn't even constitute evidence for their argument. An Idiot posted:This exchange was similar to many that I have had in countries all around the Western world. They reveal a civilization that has stopped believing in itself, that hates itself, and that is therefore unwilling to defend the values of individual freedom, democracy, and scientific and scholarly skepticism that have been handed down to us since antiquity. This is meaningless.

Back to Christenson and his proclivity for gogobars. At least he pays for the services he gets. Unlike that other National MP who got a high class escort in Hong Kong(?), took her to dinner and grossed her out so much that she declined to go back to his hotel. Then he refused to pay, so she had to sell the story to New Idea. And his apology was for having dinner with a woman who wasn't his wife, his defense was he didn't gently caress her, and he still never paid her for her time, (which she charges for).

Could it be that defining "western culture" by US foreign policy might make people hate "western culture"? No, it's the progressives who are wrong.
