Peak Darnold was the game in his rookie year against the Packers, right? Did Sanchez ever reach that high on an individual performance level?

Even at his peak, I anecdotally remember him being more considered as a likely good/maybe eventually great QB that wouldn't get in the way of the defense/run game.

She could of have been so much more but the writers just didn't care!

Sanchez had a good team around him and was a capable game manager. He just never took that leap you'd want a guy with that much around him to take. (I think we can give Schotty and Rex a fair amount of blame for that).

His high point was absolutely beating the Pats in foxborough.

And even then it was the Jet's stingy secondary that won that game.

Unless we're using "game manager" to mean "bad QB who wins anyway" I'm gonna have to disagree with this. While Rex always wanted him to be a guy who could safely get some points while the defense won the game, Sanchez was never even close to that. Sanchez at his peak was a gunslinger, a sort of Favre-lite that would deliver unbelievable comebacks and devastating, idiotic turnovers in equal measure. I think Sanchez could have continued to have a decent career after 2010 if Rex had coached him to try to win games rather than avoid losing them, but as it is the more conservative Sanchez played the worse he got. He couldn't stop throwing the dumbass picks, but he stopped even trying for the great plays.

Sounds like Mims is really just getting back into practice/game shape more than anything. Apparently he was really sick in the spring. Definitely not concerned about his roster status.

Also sounds like Wilson was improved today and made some nice throws to Davis. Still a bust though

Yeah, note Darnold had a pristine training camp his rookie year playing mostly against the 2nd team, and look how that turned out.

I think this is a very good explanation and should probably calm Jets fans down somewhat (and FWIW Wilson is way better at speaking to the media than Darnold was, not that it matters):

I'm starting to get real hyped for Jevon Holland. We're gonna have so many ballhawks in that secondary.

As for the o-line, that sucks and its definitely the biggest risk heading into the season. They're committed to letting the young guys develop, but o-line players generally don't start hitting their stride til their 3rd season. That's definitely disappointing about Eichenberg. He was supposed to be one of the more pro ready guys in the draft. Guess Tua is gonna have to rely on quick throws again.

The thing that's a shame about Sanchez is he had a really good pair of mitts which was somewhat wasted. I remember on hard knocks he was catching stuff effortlessly one handed. I like to think there is a bizarro WR/TE version of Sanchez in another world that could have been decent.

Not trying to make excuses but just a thought on Tua holding the ball too long

All of his starting wideouts didn’t practice which may have lead to some separation issues.

FWIW Barry Jackson and Joe Schad said Tua was “solid” despite all the pressure and WR’s being out.

No, it was at the same time as the snap. He acted like he wasn’t doing anything so the DB wouldn’t aggressively jam him, then he half heartedly ran a bit anyway.

I think there was a better option available at T in the draft. Let's see how Waddle does, but I think we are gonna regret passing on Sewell.

Anyway, just a reminder for everyone that the dumbfuck front office actively made the OL worse in FA by downgrading at center and trading our best player last year for scraps.
