North Jersey here. It’s raining inside my house. 4 years here and never a hint of a issue with roof, gutters, whatever. Tonight, steady drip from the header that supports the doorway from the kitchen to the dining room. It’s also the seam where an addition was put on the house 20 years ago. gently caress this weather.

The DC area got the craziest thunderstorm I’ve ever seen as Ida came through overnight at like 3 am. I’m a pretty solid sleeper but I got woken up by what I can only describe as strobe lights in the sky. Just constant lightning and thunder for at least 45 minutes. Fortunately neither Lando nor Apollo are scared of thunder so they slept right through the whole thing.

Abortion is now illegal in Texas because they built a rube goldberg device complicated enough to make the conservative justices go "ehhhh let's not touch this thing yet" https://twitter.com/fordm/status/1433283183957749761?s=19 Happy one week clippaversary to me. Not going completely smooth, but time to put the burden on men for a change. Also, why "the Democrats are going to lose in 2022" is likely, but not a given. Everyone had abortion getting kicked next year, not now, so impossible to know what the midterms will be about. facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 08:52 on Sep 2, 2021 |

Bet they smelled weakness due to Afghanistan, or want to hit Biden while he's reeling. OTOH, this is great get-out-the-vote material.

It’s a crock of poo poo and unconstitutional law on its face, but they’re gonna uphold it. Conservatives won and civil rights are going to take a huge backslide over the next decade or two.

For added fun, Texas law prevents hospitals from quarantining covid patients now so they literally cannot keep visitors out of covid positive people’s rooms. The visitors always take off their masks when left alone.

Republican electoral policy right now is hoping that they motivate the base enough to outpace their COVID-related deaths, then loving with the system (gerrymandering/voting restrictions) as insurance.

Cugel the Clever posted:This may be because Florida is cooking the books. (but then so are a lot of countries around the world... it'll be interesting to see just how many "coincidental" excess deaths Russia had over this period, for example). This is very much cooking the books. The Miami herald had an article the other day about how Florida health has changed how they report. Something about when it's reported versus when it actually happens, and picking which method looks better that day.
