Caesar Saladin posted:M Knight Shyamalan's Old is the most compelling movie I've seen in a while. It is completely hilarious and unbearably stupid but it has bold creative moves and is overall interesting and memorable in its insanity. It approaches some kind of auteur piece, there's an obvious passion involved. You're spot on my dude. Ending was real good except for the coral bullshit. I also just rewatched all the craig bonds, and I think quantum is good if you watch it DIRECTLY after casino royale - otherwise it won't make much sense unless the other is very fresh in your memory. Spectre loving suuuuuuuuckssss so bad and im shocked sam mendes did it. It felt like they completely made up the entire plot and backstory of blofeld on a whim, 0% chance that was their master plan for the story arc from the onset of the series, ala lost.

Jurassic Park feels like Luddite reactionary politics and the scum sucking lawyer was right, and we run thousands of zoos across the planet containing incredibly deadly animals with only very rare incidents caused by really dumb tourists. Not unpopular: once you get past the terrible set up, dinosaurs eating people is a good movie.

'peep show' the movie would be my absolute dream film just a few alterations though, it's a full blown psychological thriller character study instead of a dark social awkwardness comedy, so no mitch and webb the main and only pov character lives alone, has no friends or family, is morbidly obese and works a poo poo office bitch job where they're constantly and horrifically bullied their entire home life consists of eating fast food and aimlessly browsing reddit when they aren't having crippling panic attacks or doubled over in bed with horrible acid reflux and irritable bowel squirms they have no connects or money so their only addiction is lovely corn beer or malt liquor, whatever's cheaper. the cashier who works at the liquor store hates them and is constantly passive aggressive to them when they pass random people on the street they go on long paranoid monologues wondering if the things they overhear are secret digs at them. sometimes it's so intense they need to lay down in an alley and think they're dying at the end they try to commit suicide but just end up quadriplegic with body wide phantom pain now that would be my kind of movie

Jacobs ladder is actually really boring and forgettable There’s no such thing as a scary movie, and no whatever just popped into your head isn’t scary either Superhero movies are good and watching Avengers endgame in a packed theatre was an incredible experience Antichrist was amazing and it gets a bad rep because of chaos reigns meme Aliens is just…alright. It’s fine. So is the thing.

Outpost22 posted:What they did to Lola bunny in the Space Jam reboot was criminal. If they had used the psycho stalker version of Lola because "she's a really good player" despite being a danger to Bugs, they could've slipped in a sly little commentary on predation and abuse on the NBA. But I guess making her boring and having her face on a constant state of allergic reaction works too.

I have no doubt there are dozens of actors of every race and gender identity who could play the role well, but it would be an exercise in whitewashing, so to speak. (which maybe we're there already, if you were serious about it the MCU would have been the chance to build a new Iron Man or Thor character from the ground up with whatever identity you wanted, but they're all still white dudes, shows where the money is) Lil Swamp Booger Baby posted:Under the Skin owns and is another one of those movies. Generally I'd rather watch a movie that tries to do its own thing and maybe doesn't quite pull it off than one that's perfectly executed and polished. Mute on Netflix had terrible reviews all around but I really liked it and thought it was memorable. Lost River was super weird but by god it was what Ryan Gosling wanted to do. And so on. ===== Unrelated to any of the above, an opinion: Guns Akimbo was complete rear end from top to bottom and Boss Level is the much better movie mimicking video games.

MCU movies are perfectly fine to watch once for some casual entertainment but don't stand up to repetition in the slightest and the very idea of crafting elaborate theories about them or forming a deep emotional attachment is puzzling, their cultural impact can be measured firmly on the production/merchandise side of things.

I'm pretty sure all of the "haha by executing your plan you have furthered my own plan" - "that may be so but furthering your plan was my plan all along" in Dark Knight is completely nonsensical and impossible in terms of what any character would actually have had to sit down and work out as a plan in advance. Nolan was best when he had limitations and low budgets. I remember enjoying Interstellar though.

PeterCat posted:JP3 is schlocky fun. Jurassic Park 3 is the 2nd best Jurassic Park movie because at least it knows exactly what it is. The Lost World has a few fun set pieces but takes way too long to get to them and is trying to shoehorn in a message about parenthood that completely alters Ian Malcolm and was already done better in the first movie. Jurassic World wants to be a satire of reboots and corporate synergy but then just falls into embracing those things. There are glimpses of a decent action movie but they're jammed in there with about 6 other scripts all fighting for the spotlight, and generally the dumbest script wins each time. Jurassic World 2 was dumb as hell but refused to admit this. You have a dinosaur basically wink at the camera before killing a guy, but then end it on a weird somber note with a cloned kid comparing their life to the life of a dinosaur.
