I've never quite understood a lot of coaching changes for middle-of-the-road, or slightly-better-than-average coaches, like Franklin and Harbaugh as examples. A lot of coaching changes / replacements ABSOLUTELY DO NOT work out long-term. Texas, Florida, and Florida State initially jump to mind - huge programs in the past that are now just comedyjokes.

Penn State is going to be 7-5 at best and 6-6 with a loss to Rutgers at worst. I'm sorry, but this is not acceptable. If Franklin stays and manages 7-5 again albeit with glimmers of improvement with a true freshman QB next year, he'll have some leash leading into 2023. But if next year is bad, he has to go. Realistically, Franklin already hit his ceiling. We're not getting back to 10 wins

OSU is going to beat Michigan worse than usual, because Michigan cannot for the life of them score touchdowns in the redzone unless they're on the 1 inch line. I think they're something like 8th or 9th in redzone scoring overall, but almost 90th in the country in redzone TD percentage. They settle for dinky little field goals because Cade McNamara is too busy under/overthrowing everybody who's open. Whereas OSU can score from anywhere on the field, and usually do so at will. Of course, this is due to Ohio State having a QB and actual wideouts and Michigan having the second coming of John O'Korn and a bunch of slot guys who struggle to obtain more than two inches of separation on the outside. Michigan is going to need an error free game from their QB, the run game to be working on all cylinders and the defense to make some big plays if they even want a smidgen of a chance of winning that game. The last time Michigan had a QB who could make all the throws from anywhere on the field, and could score TDs at will, it was 10 years ago and Denard Robinson was under center. Jim Harbaugh cannot scout or develop QBs at Michigan if his life depended on it. It's inexplicable. It also doesn't help that Harbaugh, since he's been at Michigan, has insisted upon utilizing an offense that often times looks like it was developed in 1987. Take it with a grain of salt, but supposed Penn State insiders basically said Franklin demanded to be paid top 5 money back before the illinois game, the university offered him a great deal, and then he balked and countered. Then the Illinois game happened and for some reason the university didn't pull the big offer and that's where things stand. Now that the seasons sliding into mediocrity it looks like he overplayed his hand and may have lost the interest of LSU and USC (and maybe soon to be Florida).

He has the best QB in the country coming in and that will buy him a couple of years. I don't really want any changes in staff, especially on the offensive side of the ball. That's been a big part of the problem overall I think, they've had to change coordinators and position coaches a ton due to them getting upgraded roles elsewhere. We're on the 5th offensive system in Franklin's 8 years here, things need to just chill for a bit on that end.

I haven't been following ASU closely this year due to having my own football problems to worry about, is Herm actually in trouble? I feel like even if he's done the same job the last two coaches have done there (almost like this is the ceiling for a team in the Pac that isn't USC/Oregon) although that also means that I don't think he's that great since I don't think the previous two coaches were good.

On the one hand, pretending COVID isn’t/wasn’t happening is a very bad look. On the other, it’s part of a growing trend where athletic departments are just kind of ignoring the NCAA and their rules and kind of waiting out the clock on them, which honestly isn’t the worst strategy.
