They also did a super bad job of advertising this film. I saw a preview for it once and it was some poo poo like: NARRATOR: A time long ago MATT DAMON: I will have satisfaction! NARRATOR: A time of chivalry THAT HORSE FACED MAN FROM GIRLS: VERILY M'LADY AND FORSOOTH I SHALL FORCE INGRESS INTO THY BEDCHAMBERS PRESENTLY! NARRATOR: A time of honor MATT DAMON: This cannot stand! I am explicitly pissed about it standing! NARRATOR: A time of... The Last Duel and that was the last I saw of it. No other mentions anywhere, so I forgot about it until now. Unless they were advertising heavily on cable they completely hosed that up, and if they did heavily advertise on cable then they were targeting people aged 55-90 and/or the asleep.

I was thinking about seeing it to see some what looked like decently-recreated Medieval scenery, but decided not to when I found out it does that thing where it tells the same story three times from each person's perspective. I really hate that literary device for some reason. Also I didn't really want to watch Matt Damon, or Adam Driver, or graphic rape. Jodie Comer's cool though.

I do think this was one of those movies where they didn't know what to do with it. Covid is still very much a prohibiting thing in many high value markets and nothing about the preview gave me the sense this would be a crowd pleaser, it doesn't look like something crafted to appeal to the Chinese market, etc. They knew they weren't going to get any returns on spending money hyping it, so they didn't. On the other hand, I do use the faced-book and have a perverse obsession with my pocket rotary.
