if my dad wasn't home for dinner, we had to watch The Love Connection on tv while we ate. this was a popular dating show at the time, i think the premise was the audience voted on who people went out with. the host - Chuck Woolery - is now a hardcore far right conspiracy guy if my dad was home for dinner we watched Star Trek: The Next Generation my brother and i both loved the Simpsons, both my parents absolutely hated it. sometimes they'd let us put it on and i caught my dad smiling at the jokes every now and again. but he'd still yell about the show being "gross".

i lived in a quiet, relatively liberal suburb in the sf bay area my house was directly next to what we called "the bike path", just a little foot/bike path that cut through from my street to another one that created a major shortcut for lots of kids biking to and from various schools in the area. at 8am and 3pm the path was always full of kids of all ages. since it had high wooden fences and was partially grown over with trees so it was dark and hidden from view from the actual street, it was also a popular spot for teenagers to smoke cigarettes and weed during the less busy hours. because of this it was also a common sport for vandalism. my brother learned the word "gently caress" from the graffiti that was often on the fence one day in the early 90's a series of huge swasticas were spraypainted along the fence. there was no text or anything, just a bunch of swasticas. no one really said anything about it. the bike path was between my household (jewish) and my next door neighbors (chinese), and so thats who owned the fences that were vandalised, but i dont remember either of our families talking about feeling targetted or seeing it is anything other than "teenage mischief", even tho i was by that point well aware of anti-semitism and had seen nazi punks in various places, but i remember thinking of it as just some stupid edgy teen poo poo. which maybe it was, but i have a feeling it would be seen in a much different light today and made into a much bigger thing, for better or worse

I graduated High School in 93 and started college. I thought anyone who did anything with computers was a huge dumb idiot nerd and now I've been working in IT for 20 some years. The first girl I made out with was in 93. Her name was Wendy. She was from Wisconsin. She had fantastic jibblies. Everything else sucked.

It was fuckin sweet taping movies off there. Also plenty of rumours about "the playboy channel is going to be on (channel something) this Saturday at midnight". Of course it never was.

I spent a lot of time playing Sega Genesis/CD/32x and PC games when I wasn't waiting for porn to download at a snail's pace. Overall, music was much better than it was the decade before after all the hair metal bands disappeared from the radio.
