Is it worth buying the replay to catch Danielson v Ospreay/Hook v Jericho/Rosa v Toni, the front half of FTR/Bucks and maybe rewatch Kylo v Roddy? I was extremely tired for no good reason and fell asleep so I missed those matches and I'm not happy about it.

Time to switch to Fite, the replay is included

As someone whose introduction to indy wrestling was 2005-2006 ROH, seeing Prince Nana manage a world champion on national television makes me smile. I just wish Larry Sweeney was still around. He could have been AEW's Bobby Heenan :(

So that's Ospreay's sixth 5 star this year. There's so far been only four where he isn't in the ring.

Also his 13th since midsummer 2023.

I can't say enough about how much I love the angle they're building on with Ospreay retiring the Stormdriver 93. Callis won't be happy that Will is too much of a coward to use his strongest move, and now Will, who's basically seemed unbeatable in AEW, has a weakness his opponents can exploit.

It might just be recency bias and me not having the best memory, but Alvarez said Ospreay/Danielson is the best match ever held on American soil and it's hard to think of a counterpoint. According to his boss, both the Bucks vs Kenny/Hangman and Bucks vs Lucha Bros steel cage are the highest rated American matches at 6*. I'd have to rewatch the cage match back as that would be my pick but they're such different genres it's hard to compare them

Catching up on the scrum and drat is Toni's voice that raspy because of that double stomp to the throat/chin she took?

Huh. You're right. The Flair/Steamboat match at a Landover, MI house show in 1989 did also get 6*. I will admit fault here, I only checked the 2010s and 2020s lists on Wikipedia because I thought starflation was a new thing. Turns out, his scale has been fake since before I was born.

I know she was just doing her character but honestly after that match last night I think Toni has more than earned the right to say gently caress all she wants and also call her doubters stupid. Mostly because it pops me when she does.

What an amazing show. I can think of few things that have got me as hype as Danielson and Ospreay agreeing to an anime-standoff and hitting each other with their best moves to see who would come out on top. Eiichiro Oda does it again!

He's been leaning into the bit of being a toxic mentor for an unwilling mentee in Hook.

Jericho has just been around too much. Basically the entirety of AEW without any sort of extended break. He also has a reputation, deserved or not, of pulling promising up-and-comers into his storylines and killing their momentum (which is a bit he's leaning into now).

He has been featured a lot and had some really bad matches (Adam Cole) (also some good matches, but everyone decides to ignore those) and his storylines have been been boring and there's enough dirt that you can call him ethically dubious person.

His Dynasty match was good, and had the right booking. gently caress the haters. (I too have been thinking that he should go away for few months or more)

Jericho had also been coasting on essentially the same character for a long time now, lacking the Jericho reinvention that keeps him fresh.

The Sammy leaves and returns to Jericho multiple times without actually getting a real push didn't help people's opinions of Jericho either.

I think the main thing is that this learning tree reinvention is coming way too late after the pretty disastrous angle as Kenny's partner which couldn't get a resolution due to Kenny dying of bad promo.

And yeah, now hindsight that it feels like the dozen people who associated with him as stable members got nowhere. Poor Santana has to play second fiddle to Matt Hardy in loving TNA.

Jericho has never reinvented himself, his character has been consistent since wcw, he is an egomaniac who talks about reinventing himself. He is basically doing a Madonna/david bowie gimmick and it works face or heel. That aside part of why he was getting booed is the were rumors spread around about him for a bit and though they were uncorroborated they did get a lot of people to turn on him. It felt like it subsided after a bit but then picked up again so yeah he's leaning into it now.

Also what a fuckin amazing ppv!!
