Exploration is ill-advised.
I recall watching a video that was apparently a satire of Finnish film about a depressed, drunk, crying man rambling about how worthless he is and how he's going to kill himself while banging on the door, chopping wood, and it turns out he's at the wrong house. It ends with him trying to freeze himself to death clinging to an ice hole in a lake while his neighbour asks him what groceries he needs picked up.

My Pat Buchanan-fellating dad thinks Finland is some kind of right-wing wonderland. Please post some links indicating otherwise so I can laugh at him. He hates religion much more than he hates socialism, though, so a country that’s constitutionally atheistic with a socialist economy would be far, far, preferable to a constitutionally Christian society with a capitalist economy. He hates YHVH.

I'm an american immigrant to Finland, and have been referred to as a "model immigrant" on multiple occasions. I spend a lot of time using an axe.

Finland is more like an economically left-wing wonderland, if by wonderland you mean a slowly deteriorating welfare state. People who earn more than 80k a year are paying 40% of their income in taxes. People who earn more than 1 mil are paying 56%.

Also religion is taught in schools as a part of the basic curriculum all the way to the end of high school. Not sure what's up with your dad

He was raised by baptists (people who hate joy, levity, and hope as much as any non-Calvinist is capable of) and is an atheist. He told me if he believed in any of that stuff he’d be a maltheist, or one of several other theological frameworks only described on rationalwiki.com Don’t hold it against him though, God really is evil.

What is with the drinking beer in the morning? There's like business commuters, couples, ordinary folks boozing it up at 9am in a strip of bars down an alley near Helsinki railway station, near a greenmarket.

Went to Helsinki and Turku last summer. Turku was closed for midsummer's day or something. Emptiest town ever.

Midsummer is when everyone takes a break from their summer routine of drinking beer in the city(in the morning even) and goes off to the countryside to drink beer. Drowning in a lake is optional, but it does show you are in touch with local traditions.

actually a serial killer was just caught in the countryside, he'd been having parties for alcoholics in his cabin for decades and what he'd do is after a few days of heavy drinking he'd round up all the drunks in his rowboat, row into the middle of the lake and flip the boat, then swim to the shore. he'd been doing this for years and all the local drunks knew about it. why they kept on going to his parties?
