I do not wear this mask to protect me. I wear it to protect you from me.

I had a co-worker who loved Nirvana and the bands that followed them in the mid 90's. I blew his mind when I played Helter Skelter for him. He agreed it was it was grunge twenty years before grunge.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWW2SzoAXMo

Anyways, some classics,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEXoQbxy8sI

Light My Fire isn't great because of the lounge lizard lyrics but for the amazing instrumental that dominates the song. It was initially released in a short version until people got ahold of the album and said "play that"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_2D8Eo15wE

Black Betty was an old blues tune cranked up into a legend. The band is about as redneck as you could could get but the song itself was a slick, powerful snake of a tune.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxIWDmmqZzY

Another song with a long instrumental. These guys are the reason that calling out "Free Bird" at concerts became a thing. It became a thing because Free Bird was an amazing song. A marathon ran at a frantic pace it builds from a vocal crawl into an instrumental that just builds and builds and gets faster and faster. About half of these guys were dead a month or so after this concert.

Whole lotta stars and bars in that "Freebird" video lol.

On the beatles debate. I'm a big fan of RAM by Paul McCartney. It sort of falls outside of "classic" rock as its an independent album made when he was completely free of any other Beatles creative direction. Its certainly one of the best indie albums ever made and a classic in that sense.

i really like listening to 4-5 ACDC songs. its crazy how good their good songs are which frequently gets overlooked because of all the other songs that sound like their good songs but people dont like them for some reason

liek theyd probably literally like those songs if another band had made them, in some cases

from the perspective of learning chord theory on piano or guitar Beatles are fuckin canon. A/B/C song structure, borrowed chords, making poo poo resolve...can't say I listen to a whole lot of it anymore but especially their early catalog has some songs that when you write them out...the changes are quite beautiful.

I'm not sure anyone, not even "youre dick", was saying that they hated the Beatles.

Correct. The Beatles were obviously hugely talented and revolutionized pop/rock/whatever music. They've also been played to death on classic rock radio for 35+ years. Even within the context of classic rock there's a ton of material that never gets played except at 2am for the DEEP CUTS RADIO HOUR. Instead we hear the same what, 50 classic rock songs over and over again. Since the BadCo guy died i was going to say i'm sure we'll hear more of them but i dont know if thats even possible

They're obviously very consistent in the style and there's some less memorable stuff on most albums (not necessarily filller...which band doesn't have that) but they there's easily enough stuff to fill several amazing live albums without repeating the same songs.

To be fair, Fortunate Son isn’t really their best song, while being probably their most well known. But at least CCR doesn’t have it as bad as Deep Purple, who are best known for probably their absolute worst song.

:yeah:
Judas Priest is dad metal but I'd allow it on account of being so awesome. On their second album from '76 you've got this fuckin thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjMizl3qQGE&t=4s and then this proto-thrash one on the next https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_mpt8xyZVI

Scorpions definitely own too but I'm not sure Animal Magnetism can be said to be their earlier stuff, it's the 7th album lol. That's not to be a pedantic rear end in a top hat, the sound is significantly different and more traditional hard rock/metal by then.
