Blomkamp has good ideas and less skill than he needs to execute them properly. That said I would take District 9 and Elysium over a lot of other films that have come out recently.

there's plenty of bad to talk about with chappie, but the ending with the brain transfer still gets under my skin. it's horribly bleak because really it's just a copy and not a transfer. what a lovely way to end movie that you're suppose to be happy about chappie surviving

It's a weird ending to be sure, but it's not really bleak at all. You just have to buy a silly concept that a machine can literally transfer consciousness. However, Yolandi was def copied.

Alien 3 is trash, Alien 3 Assembly Edition is a very good movie. I can see people hating the theatrical cut since they cut out basically half the plot and reduced the other prisoners to background characters. They're like two completely different movies. And even if you don't like that one that's ok, I like how all 3 alien movies are pretty different but really good.

aliens is the best illustration of how bloated and terrible action scenes are nowadays. one of the most iconic action scenes of all time (with probably the most badass line ever) is less than two minutes long: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j51DfrLHUek not only that but the whole thing was set up well. you saw ripley use the power loader earlier and it acts as the equalizer between the hero and the villain as the hero is far weaker. if you made the movie like they do the superhero ones that'd be like twenty minutes long and they'd end up fighting outside the ship after the blast doors opened and poo poo. there'd be loads of speed ramping. the alien queen would crawl all over everything too making the cgi laughably obvious even if it was technically good in normal motion.
