Is this why sharks are so cranky? They want to be petted, but there are no natural petters in the ocean.

I know I've been posting a lot lately but today is Major's 10th birthday and that's a pretty exciting birthday to have. I tried to get Mina to wear a hat and sing happy birthday but she wasn't feeling it.

Let me be personally clear, there is never a situation or time in my life where I do not want to see someone's dog. https://i.imgur.com/oqpADX7.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/Cy00OGE.mp4 https://imgur.com/gallery/KqlKQ Early Saturday morning, Ludivine, a two-and-a-half-year-old hound dog, was let out of the house in Elkmont, Alabama, to do her business. Prone to roaming around town at will, Ludivine snuck out of the backyard and made her way to the starting area of the inaugural Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon about a quarter mile away. Ludivine proceeded to mingle with the runners, run the entire 13.1-mile course, cross the finish line in an unofficial 1:32:56, and have a medal draped over her floppy brown ears—all without her owner, April Hamlin, realizing she had wandered off in the first place. The incident was first reported in Canadian Running Magazine. “All I did was open the door, and she ran the race on her own accord,” Hamlin, 43, told Runner’s World, saying she received texts with photos of Ludivine from friends who were volunteering at the finish. “My first reaction was that I was embarrassed and worried that she had possibly gotten in the way of the other runners.” Source: http://www.runnersworld.com/running-with-dogs/hound-bandits-half-marathon-in-alabama

Glad to hear it! I have lambs and goat kids due starting Sunday so y'all had better brace yourselves for "giant puppy with tiny sheep" pictures.Neddy Seagoon posted:How's Major coping with retirement from active duty? He's never been a working dog the way Mina is, he's just a regular farm dog that helps me bite things when things need biting. He's still just as active as ever running through the woods after foxes and catching pigeons in the barn. You really can't keep a cattle dog mix, even a giant one, down. He got a birthday bunny.

I've been re-listening to the (excellent) audiobooks of James Harriott's early/mid 20th century country veterinary stories, so I am all about seeing and hearing about baby farm animals and good dogs with good jobs

Who What Now posted:The common housecat is a barely domesticated Apex predator that could kill at any moment. Well, actually ... Housecats and the wild felines they are recently descended from are not apex predators. Obligate carnivores, but not apex predators. There are plenty of things that prey on small felines. Lions, tigers, and jaguars are apex predators, but Mr. Kitty is not. This has been a pedantry moment. https://i.imgur.com/Q2zi7vY.gifv
