I made a few updates to Back In The Saddle - Sheriff and Deputy, the quick-response interceptors, are going to launch alongside some of the escorts and loiter near their respective airbases rather than waiting on the ground. I don't want them caught up on the ground; given the supersonic opposition and the close quarters, those five minutes they spend launching could make a whole lot of difference. I also feel that it's more dramatic to keep them in the backfield and have them rush out in response to the enemy, rather than just keeping them with the main escort. I also noted my assumptions on what the enemy will throw at us; I'm not expecting Pakistani 3dp'ers living in the hills to be particularly on the ball with regards to strike coordination, so I assume they're going to hit us in intermittent waves of 2-5 planes throughout the op, hence the constant low-level escort, hence the staggered launches and force rotation. The whole thing is going to fall apart if they Big Wing us. Radio Free Kobold fucked around with this message at 23:32 on Oct 2, 2019 |

FrangibleCover posted:Oh yeah, we might well lose everything. But with disposable 3DP aircraft that we lose after a mission anyway, who cares! I'm almost certain the Hornet will get past while we're Wile E. Coyoteing our way into a surprise Pantsir battery. Even well-positioned manpads will hurt us. I actually considered a night op for this reason, but turns out the bombers are *way* more accurate in the daytime. Early opposing patrols will also make things difficult. A spotter on the ground in Kandahar would be annoying. That kind of thing. I fully expect to lose about half, possibly most. But overall the Hornet has a good chance.

With a total of 25 Goons voting, we have 17 votes for Door Knocker followed by 8 votes for Back in the Saddle. Ops is commencing planning while we pry the Condib's out of the 50 year old crates. The last time these things saw use like this it was the Six-Day War...

When do we find out which unfortunate souls got assigned to which aircraft? Or is that going to be revealed when the op starts?

I mostly wanted to get the opinion off my chest that Canary Cage (Spain vs assorted North Africa ca 2005) is a really great standalone scenario with a good level of complexity that doesn't go completely nuts and I had a lot of tense fun skirmishing with missile boats and airstrikes until I was unable to find that stupid SSK that evaded my screen and nailed an FFG and it went on to put four loving torpedoes into Principe de Asturias (it was still trucking after the first two). I ragequit.

I mean, these 3dp planes are like, 1 or 2 flights right? So basically everyone who went up got shot down. e: I did not factor asset preservation into my plan at all.
