Honestly, now that SD cards have the option to be handled in a safe, secure, and useful manner in Marshmallow I have a difficult time raising a dander for objecting their presence. I certainly don't want or need one but as long as they aren't harming the ecosystem (as I think one could argue they were doing at least early in Android's gestation) then it's really no harm, no foul. Well, until the influx of "my SD card died and I lost all my data how can I recover it? No, I don't use the cloud, why do you ask?"

Well, I don't want to use the cloud or any other NSA services until my power button is properly clicky. Also, my phone battery doesn't last, can anyone help? Can someone recommend an app that does podcasts? Can I use Hangouts to send iMessages? Does this type of USB cable work with my 8 year old car charger?

Endless Mike posted:Well, until the influx of "my SD card died and I lost all my data how can I recover it? No, I don't use the cloud, why do you ask?" True enough, but let's be real here, SD cards don't die that frequently and anyone needing a terabyte of anime on them at all times has that data elsewhere with the exception of game progress. Sure, they might lose poo poo like SMSs and things like that when an SD card does require a reformat of the phone due to the marriage of storage but it's not like there aren't ways to back up that independently and I dare say cloud-fearers and poors looking to supplement poorphones' low system storage aren't unaccustomed to data loss. That's not really an SD card problem, that's a dumb people problem and you can't solve dumb.

What's also hilarious is seeing all the blogs say today "Future phones won't say Motorola anywhere on them." Ok, let me examine my Moto X to see how it would change the phone. Hmm...ok...er...yeah. No Motorola on the outside. Let's check the About Phone, it has to say it there. What? It says Moto X? Huh, ok. I know, my Motorola watch surely it says Motorola on it som...whoops, ok. It only says Moto 360. It seems to me that they banished the Motorola name awhile ago.

Motorola is Motorola, it's yet another Android manufacturer not making money. If they can make Lenovo a big name in America with phones (Huawei had a great 2015 apparently) then that is probably a much bigger financial opportunity than the status quo.

What am I missing here My nexus 6P is set to turn on do not disturb 'priority only' mode from 11pm weeknights Gmail (and everything else) is set to normal in app notifications settings Yet the phone still turns on the ambient display and pulses the LED when I get an email? Pretty sure it happens with other apps too but Gmail is the one that I've noticed the last couple of nights.

Tunga posted:I haven't seen the quotes that you're referencing but I don't see how this helps. There is already an API for notification lights. I don't want every app to have to implement an API, I want my phone to stop notifying me about things when I've put it in the mode that means I don't want to be notified about things. I *think* the idea is that it won't be tied to the notification itself so you can specify that but of course the devil is in the details.

I turn on priority only and have set it to let calls through. That way my phone doesn't beep every time I get a message but I still see that I got a notification. Calls come through normally which is fine since I usually only get calls if it's something important.

Can they just tie the light/screen specifically to DND hours? Like, if someone turns it on manually let the light and screen keep flashing, but if DND is activated by the automated scheduling, turn them off as it's likely that's sleep time. I ended up turning the pulse light on my 5x off because it would still blink at night and I'm one of these people that has to sleep in as pitch-black an environment as I can get. That little LED is loving bright. Luchadork fucked around with this message at 15:07 on Jan 8, 2016 |

Motorola Mobility was spun off from Motorola before even the Google acquisition. Motorola Mobility is what's going away now. Motorola Solutions is the other half of the company and they still exist.

Encrypt everything out of principal IMO. Really tho, if you want to do it do it. Decide afterwards if it's not worth it then revert.

You don't need to encrypt your phone unless you're using it for drug dealing or your 128 gbs of child porn. Encryption is for protecting data at rest, which most phones never are.
