I can sign a paper saying I give you one billion magic beans if I slap you in the face, then I can slap you in the face and you don't get any magic beans. The problem with Republican loyalty pledges and contracts is they are just like that magic beans issue. People sign the drat things just so they can say they sign them. In some cases, like the one Trump signed, there are no god drat penalties. Others like Norquists tax pledge causes donors to go after you, and other stuff like "contract with America" are just talking points. I don't think I've seen a single GOP contract that got anywhere near the realm of legally enforceable.

The GOP must be kicking itself over those rules it put in that caucuses have to reflect the preference vote. Given how much Trump voters suck at anything other than voting, they'd have stolen vast numbers of delegates from him by now. Just saw the story on the Dem side that Sanders stole two delegates from Clinton in NV through late-stage caucus procedures and it reminded me that the GOP stopped doing these later stage caucuses after Ron Paul massively outperformed in them last cycle.

I'm pretty sure it was a pledge and not a contract and even if it was a contract I doubt it would be any more legally enforceable than signing BFF in a yearbook. If he loses he will go on a tirade about how the Republican party is corrupt, how they stole the election from him, how he is not going to endorse a loser and that he will run as an independent in 2020 while he spends a few more months traveling around scamming money off his supporters to pay off his campaign debt.

I hate when articles simplify stuff into "he has to win 60% more of the delegate count" That sounds like he has to win 60% in every upcoming state, when in reality it's likely he is going to take 100% of a bunch of states, so it's not that crazy of a thought.

The question is not "how is Trump going to get 60%," it's "how are Cruz/Kasich going to get 40%." It's surprisingly difficult.
