It hits a lot like Heroes of the Storm did - a super stripped down moba with very short games that mostly focuses on constant fighting and skirmishing over map objectives instead of farming or item builds - which means that it's really easy for even non-moba players to pick up. I don't know if it's worth playing "seriously" since I largely only solo queue for fun every so often, but for a casual "pick up pokemon action figures and bang them together" experience it's quite good.

It absolutely is, since it plays on the trope that trans women are trying to trick men, which then gets used as a defense in cases where trans women are murdered. It's also a fully western term, as I think the Japanese term used for the same trope doesn't translate the same and is generally translated these days as just crossdresser.

It absolutely is a slur, it always has been. It plays into the nonsense "gay panic" stuff about how you were tricked into liking someone's looks but -actually- they weren't the gender you expected and this is a horrifying thing and it's their fault for tricking you and not yours for assuming. Anime and anime fans like to play this off, but it's never been good. Edit: Just like several vtubers happily admit to being lolicons/shotacons, which is really creepy and not acceptable but they usually get a free pass for being anime. Hi hello I’m trans I’ll weigh in here. “Trap” originated on 4chan so it’s indelibly tied to the site, despite the term having spread far past it. It originally referred to individuals who are both feminine-presenting and male-identifying. It is an anime and porn and therefore fantasy term that has no bearing on real life at all. It also implies malicious or deceitful behavior on the part of the subject. The term is extremely outdated, completely superseded by modern terminology, and never came from a place of good faith in the first place anyway. It is of the same nature as many other slurs from the early 20th century, though I refuse to make any declarations of its relative “strength” or impact. Never use “trap” to refer to trans people, fictional or nonfictional. It literally doesn’t even slightly apply in that case, anyway. In fact, just never use the term at all. At best, it makes you sound like you’re stuck in the body of a pimply teenage nerd from 2007. That said, proper knowledge of the term’s implications is fairly rare, so it doesn’t surprise me that not everyone knows not to use it. I didn’t see Irys’s clip, so I don’t know the context, and I’m willing to bet she didn’t mean it in any phobic way, so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt here. My understanding is that the basic rule of the term at least originally was "draw a girl, call it a boy". So it's supposed to be used only in the context of 2D characters and not real people (but it still happens anyways).

Ina's already lined up her third Soma stream for a few hours from now. She must be really enjoying it which is awesome, because it's genuinely one of my favourite games of all time. I haven't been watching her whole playthrough since I've played that game too often and too recently to watch someone do it again, but I've been skipping through to the Catherine/Simon dialogue and the big scenes. She just did the part where you have to get the security cipher and she's really close to the diving suit scene which I'm so excited for.

The term started as talking about a character archetype of anime guys who dress like girls, so the “joke” was that you wanna gently caress them but there’s a dick so they tricked you into wanting to gently caress them. It’s not funny, and it’s kinda awful, but it also wasn’t initially transphobic so much as homophobic. This spread to a slur used when talking about actual trans women for what are, hopefully, very obvious if eye-rollingly bigoted reasons, but just how much the people using it know that the term evolved that way — or care — is probably pretty disparate.

Yeah I appreciate everyone's feedback. I had no idea, and I'd only seen it used in reference to 2D characters but there's definitely some IRL issues with the phrase. Didn't know about the Transgender(ed) issue but from a quick Google search it seems to just be a Grammer issue that's a pet peeve of a lot of transgender people so at least I didn't accidentally use a slur.
