Edgar's been working with Paul Machliss a long time so if that's who you're talking about I doubt it's due to distrust. They probably worked very closely together to figure out the best way to do the editing but I'd be interested to hear the exact reasoning for it.

Didn't mean to infer Machliss was on-set out of laziness or distrust. Like I said, those guys know what they're doing. I was talking about something more like a low budget production or Bonoman's commericals where someone thinks it's going to save them time and money but it invariably becomes a clusterfuck and burns the editor. Or like the story I heard the other day from one of the DITs on X-Men 3, where Brett Ratner would show up on set in the mornings, call the editors and ask them what he should be shooting that day... Nice av/post combo, btw.

Yeesh, that sounds terrible. I wonder how much of that was Ratner's fault and how much because he came onto the production late. Oh and yeah thanks I'm a bit of a Wright fan!

Kevin Smith is a director who edits as he films as well but I would bet a very large sum of money that is because his movies require editing on par with a 12th grader's final project to their "Intro to Filmmaking" class during 6th period.

David Fincher also has a post team on site doing rough composites in addition to basic edits. They've made custom builds of both their post software and camera systems to make their unique workflow possible.

Gone Girl got away with it because they had a team of Adobe engineers on stand by to fix poo poo, but if your middle name isn't "Andrew Leo" you're up poo poo's creek. I've been using it for the last couple years and editing is fine, but holy gently caress everything I need to do from a technical or workflow standpoint takes me three to five times as long as it would on Avid, and that's not counting lost time from bugs, crashes and insane loading times if there's more than 3 or 4 days worth of dailies. It's just not built for the footage loads or delivery needs of long format. In short,

Its ok you can "edit" in Resolve now lol. Don't get me wrong, I love Resolve, but it's not a NLE. But Blackmagic has been rumoured to buy buying Avid for years now, so who knows.

He uses Red cameras for similar reasons. His customized models barely resemble what anyone else actually buys from them and I would imagine his build of Premiere is similar. But yes, Adobe is garbage that only stays afloat due to lack of competition for creative suites.

Most of the British industry uses it now except a few holdovers that need to customising to work with out dated systems. Everyone thinks the system they don't use is garbage.

It's a Vince Foster level leap of stupidity to actually connect the two aside from them both operating out of Arkansas, but it's an absolutely batshit story even without the Clinton Connection. edit: also Barry Seal apparently shows up in The Infiltrator (which is very loosely based in fact) also. The movie is 100% syncopated to the songs in the scenes. One of the songs featured in the movie is "Tequila," so some of that footage is 100% shot to match the song.
