How are these things? He was asking 3k in another ad. Would they be usable as a year round daily driver? I'm desperate to get rid of my golf for something fun. My friend had an SVT contour and I actually liked that stupid thing. One of the best factory exhaust notes I've heard.

Do be warned, I can't remember if it's that model SHO or the next one with the Yamaha V8, but one (maybe both, idk) of them has the cam gears press-fit onto the shafts. No weld, no lock bolt or stake, nothing. I seem to recall a couple people here lunched their motors when it came loose and de-timed the engine.

That's the V8's that came in the next gen SHO. Most of them are probably welded by now.

No way that SHO gets that kind of mileage. I was lucky to get 25mpg on a three hour highway trip.

He is probably using UK MPG. Which a lot of people use to inflate what they're actually getting since most canadians are more familiar with US gallons. I still doubt it gets 27MPG though. More people should use L/100km in canada so there is no confusion.

Looking at fuelly, it might not make a good daily if it uses that much fuel.

I grew up with my dad using Imperial MPG as a measure. AS long as you are comparing consistent units (and communicating this!) I don't see the problem.

Just lying.

Not automotive, but I e-mailed a guy selling a "Retina" 15" MacBook Pro. I told him that the model he was selling was NOT in fact a Retina, and he should change his ad so that people wouldn't be mistaken. He has sent me really angry derogatory messages for going on a week now. :kimchi:

I guess canada used to use imperial gallons, but now everything is done in L/100km. People sometimes use US MPG, sometimes use imperial MPG in ads. Not that either matters since anyone who says it gets a certain mileage in ads is a dirty loving liar. I usually use fuelly and subtract about 1L/100km off the average to get what my mostly highway driving will result in.

I managed to consistently eek out 28 mpg on my '89 for what it's worth. Around town I was lucky to see 20.

I checked it out. The pickup was fine, but:

1. The "clean title" was, in fact, the applicant's copy of an application for new title. Wrong kind of pink slip, guys...
2. He said it had a smog certificate, and it sure did--for a failed test
3. It was on a non-op.

If the paperwork wasn't all hosed, I'd have probably bought it. As it is, there's no way in hell.

Best moment: Before I saw the paperwork fuckery, I was kind of vacillating and the guy says, "Well there's a guy who looked at it yesterday and he's going to come pick it up tonight if you don't buy it". After I see the paperwork and say gently caress no, he wants to know if I'd buy it if it passed smog. Didn't put the two statements together until I was heading home, no chance for a clever retort.
