The music is great and Serkis is great and some of the designs in there are great Not too sure who the girl with two megaman arms is though, that looked dumb

Vagabundo posted:In the comics, Wakanda is a super-isolationist state. From the trailer they seem to be so in the film too. Serkis being all "I'm the only dude who's ever seen it & come back"... But for real it goes back to the time when Africa interior was still largely unexplored by white men & thus "here be dragons". There's a ton of mystery about Africa in fact & fiction: Stanley & Livingstone, Alan Quartermain, &c. I suppose whoever thought up the character read a lot of those types of adventures in his childhood. See also Crichton's Congo. Carthag Tuek fucked around with this message at 01:24 on Jun 11, 2017 |

It's pretty hard to get excited about an MCU movie but Ryan Coogler has serious chops and I hope this one gets him the recognition he should have gotten for Creed.

Directing a Marvel movie is big money though right? If so I think he's gonna do ok. I haven't seen Creed yet but by all accounts it's a good movie so It's def on my list. But yea I just wish interesting auteurs whether directors or actors didn't have to make a bunch of boring crowdpleasers to get to do their own thing. Can't really be avoided tho.

I'm sure it's not like, terrible or anything but considering how often news about actors' wage complaints come up I wouldn't expect it to be "big money". Whedon's also apparently said that he made more making Doctor Horrible than Avengers and also said quote:In general terms, yes – Marvel can be very cheap, God knows. They can also be sensible and frugal. They have a very small infrastructure and they’re not heaping this money on themselves.

I dont know that much but I'm gonna guess Whedon going to the press with "they're cheap and poor" is a way for him to get his pay bumped. And also I'm going to guess that Coogler could not pull that off at this time. also: all productions are "cheap" as hell if youre asking for money. Whedon's quote is worthless imo

They were definitely notoriously cheap pre-Avengers, I don't know if that's still the case though.

Doesnt the next avengers movie have a billion dollar budget?
|
# ? Jun 11, 2017 05:44 |

I'm just saying in general. Just cause a movie has a billion dollar budget doesn't mean you can spend it all whillynilly. There's a person somewhere in there who says "nope" to some of your script requests. Idk my idea was that there's like a minimum effective amount of money for the whole infrastructure that you can basically multiply up depending on shooting locations. Add to that the director, stars, main cast, etc. Once you get past all the normal stuff (also there's probably a buffer cause only idiots start a project without a buffered budget) -- so you get past all that and the producer will say no. He should say no. That's all I'm saying. Only a bad producer would say yes at the first request there. Unless it's a really good idea.

Also Doctor Horrible made crazy money for him because it was self owned. With actors dicking around during a strike.

Oh gosh, ok, as goofy as Black Panther looks, vibranium isn't HARD, it just absorbs kinetic energy really well. Which is even more goofy, because apparently its smart enough to NOT absorb all the energy you put into a punch or whacking someone with your shield, but WILL absorb all the energy from bullets fired at you. Comic book movies are really stupid, like somehow stupider than the source material.
