The hardest choice IMO is the last one: Rupture is hella useful but if I understand it right Saturation Fire is literally 'fire on everything in a cone in front of you with no target cap, oh and it also destroys cover' :stare:

The fact that saturation fire exists makes me question why they thought demolition was a good perk to stick in the grenadier tree tbh, along with the fact that demolition sucks and shouldn't exist in its current form

Yeah this and Shadowstrike are the two reasons I'm curious what a KZ ranger could do.

Some teeth long for ripping, gleaming wet from black dog gums. So you keep your eyes closed at the end. You don't want to see such a mouth up close. before the bite, before its oblivion in the goring of your soft parts, the speckled lips will curl back in a whinny of excitement. You just know it.
KZ can't benefit from Shadowstrike now, because someone else has to do something to pop conceal before KZ will start taking shots, and that means you never take a KZ shot while concealed.

Demolition really should have been a passive chance for normal shots to destroy cover (maybe in a small aoe around the target) instead of an activated, one-tile cover destruction thing.

Then your squaddie choice is between passive armor shredding or passive cover removal.

Call me crazy then, because if my ranger is ever on overwatch he's either not used his turn to unload one or two guaranteed crits into somebody's face for truly disgusting damage before becoming invincible to the next attack or he hasn't chucked a mine and screwed multiple mobs and half the scenery.

Speaking of the AWC, characters of a certain class can never be offered an AWC perk from their own class, right?

Correct, although there's something of an edge case in Rangers, who can receive Lightning Reflexes (a holdover perk from EU) which overlaps with its XCOM2 version, Shadowstep. Shadowstep prevents Overwatch shots on the Ranger; LR causes the first enemy Overwatch shot that would have hit the soldier to miss. In most cases, LR is the superior perk, since you rarely have to care about multiple Overwatching enemies and LR will actually cause the enemy to waste its shot instead of just ignoring the Ranger.

Olive Branch posted:

Are there any perks that are not ever awarded no matter what class you are, barring those needing secondary weapons like GREMLINS, grenade launchers, pistols, and swords?

Aside from the obvious ones that require special secondary weapons, I've never seen Shadowstrike, Heavy Ordinance, Conceal, Untouchable, Saturation Fire, Suppression, Demolition, Aim, or Steady Hands.

Well my confusion is how KZ relates to the Overwatch (Concealed) action. When you put all your men on Overwatch (Concealed), then pop an enemy group, the men will fire overwatch shots into the scattering enemies. With no Aim penalty. I do not know if KZ can gain the same "no Aim penalty" benefit from concealment, or if a Phantom laying down a KZ will ever use it.

I'll stop posting about this until I can test some stuff with my game.

Plus it's close to moot if fuckin' overwatch shots can't crit, which I believe they cannot, and so you lose half the benefit of Shadowstrike anyway.

Anyone know a good way to get 8 slots for troops without the scroll bar? I've been messing with mods for a while and the best thing I could find is one that scrunches them all up and misaligns them for lower resolutions. I'm on an Ultrawide.

Even the "ultrawide squad selection" thing is bogus because with the 8 squad upgrades it, for some reason, only shows 6 slots with the 2 squad size upgrades. Really frustrating.

I have a phantom killzone sniper in a current playthrough. If the KZ sniper is concealed and you lay killzone down, when a pod gets popped he will stand there like a moron, unless he gets revealed by flanking. The person who guessed earlier that it worked is wrong; killzone works exactly like an overwatch for a phantom sniper.

e: if you killzone a pod while the squad is concealed, and they move, the sniper will just sit there and do nothing also.

So I know the advice on Ironman is not to play it because it's too buggy, but I've found I consistently lack the willpower otherwise.

I've been having a lot of fun on Ironman, though a bug cost me my best sharpshooter when I couldn't pick up her unconscious form for the evac.

Now however I've had a worse bug. I ended a particularly difficult guerrilla op that I did manage to successfully complete (though it cost me a couple of guys). When I've next loaded the game, the game has treated the mission as one I haven't gone on yet, but the people I lost are still dead, and the soldiers who survived that mission no longer show up as "Available".

That includes my best ranger, my best specialist, and a few others. It's enough to seriously set back my campaign. Has anyone seen/heard of this, or have any suggestions? I'm using a few mods (stop wasting my time, two class mods, swords always hit) but I wouldn't think they'd interact with this part of the game.

For such an amazing game it really is startling how many bugs they released it with.

You'd kind of need to swap Demolition from tier 2 (Corporal, IIRC) to tier 1/Squaddie, because IMO being able to take Shredder AND a passive Demolition (along with possibly Holo-Targeting or Rupture or Hail of Bullets, etc) would be a little much.

So your choices become Demolition vs Shredder, Blast Padding vs Suppression (this one seems a no-brainer, Blast Padding may need a buff anyway).

I totally get this.

If I start a non-ironman game I can't always resist save-scumming, and then I sort of lose the energy to play because I'm basically cheating.

If I start an ironman run I generally get to the first supply raid and then I gently caress up and activate two pods full of stun lancers and vipers and get taken to pound town. :unsmigghh:

Does the Long War peoples' Leader Pack mod have good skills? I can't seem to google up what the 'leader' type perks actually are. Is anyone using it?

The SMG Pack I'm kind of undecided on. I really like the Mobility bonus SMGs give, but less damage than an AR AND fewr shots before reload is kind of a bummer.

Have not tried the Muton Centurion pack. Does it mesh well with 'normal' Mutons?

Also, tiny thing, but it's a little annoying that the text entry box (for biographies at least) can't be pasted to/from the clipboard. :argh:
