I like rosewood a lot. Feels and sounds great. Sometimes the grain can be absolutely gorgeous but honestly more companies need to look towards the future and work on newer fretboard ideas. We don't have to stick to the same wood we've been using forever.

Literally every guitar I own has a rosewood fretboard and I'm not even sure why or how this happened I lust after a maple fretboarded tele it just never seems to happen

I need to get back in contact with that guy who 3D printed fingerboards out of a composite resin mixed with powdered metals and ”tonewood pulp” even though he agreed tone wood was bullshit. It made pretty patterns to swirl through blasts of ebony, mahogany, and brass dust then tint different layers of the resin to build up a depth effect.

Visually I've always preferred Rosewood (or, if I could get it, ebony) yet here I am with a large-ish guitar collection and the majority of the fretboards are maple. And in the end I'm totally cool with that because I love the way the fretboard ages.

I'm personally pretty uncaring about the fretboard for most guitars. I think ebony is cooler than rosewood but not enough to worry about. Except Strats and Teles should all be maple. That's a rule.

The Muppets On PCP posted:https://www.namm.org/issues-and-advocacy/regulatory-compliance/cites-update-commercial-rosewood-and-bubinga I'm cool with this as those woods have been over-harvested to poo poo, the only reason Rosewood was originally used for electrics was because it was cheap. Lots of other options out there! It's not like man-made fretboard materials are a new thing, it's been around for ages

As long as I can still get dark brown or black fretboards that look good and feel good to play I don't care what they use. Besides, rosewood has a ton of variance. For each great looking rosewood boards I've seen, I've also seen a dozen weird looking, washed-out colored rosewood boards with distractingly ugly and attention-demanding grain patterns.

Rosewood is overrated. I briefly owned a Gibson that had a "baked maple" fretboard(it's literally a maple fretboard that has been charred to dark brown/black). I seriously didn't even know it was "maple" until I randomly read the info card that came with it a few months after owning it. It's a 100% cosmetic thing. It makes zero difference in tone(obviously). Anyone who says it makes a difference is dumb. It's 2016. How do we not have cool carbon fiber or titanium fretboards that never break/chip/dry out? Edit: and Stainless Steel frets should be loving standard. Refret jobs should be a thing that doesn't exist anymore syntaxfunction posted:
