My one complaint with this game, so far, in terms of questing, is that they've somehow managed to make escort quests worse by making you have to wave at the thing you're escorting every time. I've done two of these and they were both stupid. They weren't hard, just stupid.

Just keep waving at the guy until he arrives at the target area. If something attacks it, hit it with an instant ranged skill so they change targets. They won't kill you before you get your escortee to the end.

Bam, "escort" done in 30 seconds.

I find this much better than the classic "NPC cowers in fear until you kill all enemies in range" bull

I still do not get why they are so extremely against speedruns

anyone remember if they stated why they added all those loving roadblocks as people gradually found new ways to speedrun places?

Nope but you can bet your rear end it had everything to do with killing the first 2 Brayflox hard bosses in 5 minutes and leaving and repeating. Or in other words, blame Animus books, which remain the absolute worst at everything.

naw, this was way before that. brayflox two boss runs is still possible to do with today's dungeons if you should want to

amdapor keep runs was kill nothing, run like the wind, tank kills himself as the only person with aggro, res the tank, tank the boss, repeat until you're at the final boss room and the dungeon is over

it was efficient in terms of how fast you could cap your mythology and it was efficient in terms of not dropping any durability on your gear since nothing was dying

12-15 mins is still fast for a dungeon imo. With daily pvp giving 40 you only have to do 4 exdr for the week. This is assuming you don't raid either. I don't know about you guys but this feels a lot nicer and less mind numbing then when it was WP and AK only when the game first came out.

You don't have to EXDR at all, if you don't want. Trials, frontlines, and the odd alex normal or savage here and there will cap you easily.

Also why are people worried about 170ish being the floor for new content. loving alex normal requires 170. The only reason the current ExDR only need 145 is because they're the first endgame dungeons of an expansion.

Getting to 170 is pretty trivial and can be done in a week or so after hitting 60.

Alexander dungeons will net you 80 esos if you run each one twice every week.

I'm a fan of EXDR because I roll greed on all of the gear and then turn it in for seals to buy coke and sell it for a nice profit.

IIRC it was because (1) they were noticing that people were getting harassed in WP for not pulling enough or being the wrong kind of DD/healer class to do optimal AOE; it's the same reason they also toned down Holy (2) they didn't want people to feel obligated to sac-pull from boss to boss like in AK

I prefer to get my eso in as little time as possible. EXDR + front lines daily mixed with 2 savage bosses works well.

They also added expert after AK/WP because people were just avoiding the duty finder altogether to facilitate speedruns, and that's the last thing they want you to do. They don't want to make 2-3 dungeons to have people only run one either. They also upped the cap from 300 a week to 450 a week to combat people votekicking or pre-screening people without +1 relics and full i90 welfare.

They want you to trudge through the muck with whatever people it puts you with on your shoulders so that they can earn their max item level gear, that's why you can't speedrun. The day they no longer let you queue for expert with a premade is the day it takes me twice as many dungeons to cap each week.

If you aren't swimming in law tomes by now, I'm not really sure what to tell you. Yeah, you'll need to grind a few EXDRs, and you should probably run hunts so you can get ilvl 180 gear too (you should do this a bit, it's great for getting your 100 kills choco achievement each week too). A little bit of effort needs to go in to unlocking Alex.

Also, this showed up in Google News for me today:

Ferals in vanilla got exactly zero play in raids, they were there purely as brez bodies.

Tanking ACNs would get exactly zero play in raids as well.

I meant a single class getting access to all three roles, though it's obviously much less of a problem in this game with the job system being a vast improvement.

That was bad.

Fire spec for mages wasn't used just because everything was immune to them. The spec just wasn't good in till naxx let the ignite dot stack and refresh for massive dmg. Vanilla wow at lvl 50 most mages never heard about +spell dmg, with frost being the most efficient spec for mana.

Jump to the end of vanilla with the naxx release and mages were rocking 35%+ crit and +1000 spell damage making fireballs crit for 3k+. Actually made running fire useful.

Its just a sidenote that no one ran mc and bwl anymore, much like turn 1 of Bahamut.

People not running BWL is definitely incorrect - in Vanilla, there weren't really many trinkets, period, and a few of the very best ones came from BWL exclusively. MC was also ran, but that was more of a RNG exercise than anything resembling progression.

Vanilla WoW had gearing a lot more like FFXI's than modern WoW/XIV, so it was entirely possible that your BiS gear came from some random overworld boss or an entry-level raid.
