So I need some advice, I've been playing now for probably a month or so. Grinding out my Reps, and going through the story etc. Mondian helped me out a few weeks ago to help gear out my ship. Since then I've finished the anniversary event and I obtained the T'Pau scout ship. I'm still using the Mogai Retrofit(t5, not upgraded). I feel like if I move over to the Scout ship I'll lose too much firepower. I feel like the Mogai is still made out of paper, and my hull doesn't hold up very well. If I wanted to buy a ship to make some progress, what do you guys recommend. I'm not sure that I want to go in at this moment on a $60 bundle though. I've heard good things about the Morrigu, and I'm not sure if that's the route that would be best. Any advice?

You got 20k in Fleet Credits yet? If so I can just give you some fleet ship modules and you can grab a t6 fleet ship. For a a Romulan I'm a fan of this one: https://sto.gamepedia.com/Fleet_Ar%27kif_Tactical_Carrier_Warbird_(T6)

Ya i'm at 45k fleet credits. Luckily. It seems like every time I check the fleet holdings, it's only duty officer turnin's left. Occasionally, I get lucky and the fleet marks haven't been done yet.

Those doff ones are essentially EC+time= fleet credits. Scope out the grey Starbase special project, it uses really cheap doffs and refreshes quickly and if you're lucky you can dump your marks before somebody else notices the project restarted.

: time spent on the exchange and/or time spent grinding green doffs into whites.

Trying to edit a page on the wiki but I don't have permissions. Dudes in chat are telling me to add this to the wiki and offering bounties 'cause I guess it's that useful and folks don't know about it:

I was a City of Heroes/City of Villains player and this whole "tiki torch" thing was an old emote from that game. I mentioned to goonchat that there are other things from that game engine that still work in STO.

The most notable that I can remember, and is useful to goons in STO, is the command "camdist". "camdist" lets you set your camera distance manually. That doesn't seem like much but it lets you bind specific distances to a single button.

The most common use of this command is to zoom out further than normal. Not so important on ground missions. Really loving useful on space missions if you're not a cannon user.
You're still limited to the "normal" range with your zoom-in/zoom-out buttons or scroll wheel. If you hit "zoom in" from your "camdist" bind you'll zoom all the way in to your normal widest-view. You can't step through the extended wide views with your zoom key. If you want more than one extra-wide view you have to bind each angle to a key. Generally I just use a slightly-wider-view-button and mash it at the start of every single space mission.

/bind End "camdist 200"

You may or may not be able to hold a zoom out further than that. I don't think you're supposed to be able to, but we're all STO players here and understand that a codebase this old has "quirks."
On planetary ground maps you can essentially set your camdist to zoom out above the clouds far past the point of being able to see yourself.

I'm still trying to work out what a good ship is for my FedSci captain. I've used the d'Kora, the T'Pau and the Voth Bastion and none of them seem to click.

Until I max out reps for the fleet ship modules my appealing options are:
Tholian Orb Weaver from the Exchange.
Tactical Escort Retrofit via Upgrade Token from the Exchange
Save up the absurd amount needed to get a Voth Palisade off the exchange (195 million last I checked)

If I did pick up the Orb Weaver it would be pretty easy to also pick up the Meshweaver to get the other piece of the console set for that bonus at least.

Also, which reputation sets are worth getting?

Tholian Orb Weaver T5-U is the best budget sci ship. It is also an excellent sci ship, and with the consoles from the Meshweaver and Tarantula it holds its own against most of the T6 options.

The Meshweaver does not come with a console, but it does unlock Meshweaver frigates for the Tarantula and Recluse.

As for equipment, the ship set from the Temporal Defense rep is what you will want. As for weapons, you want the Krenim mission replay set, the PEP, and the Gravimetric torp from the Dyson rep. Then fill out the rest with lockbox science-based universal consoles and traits. You might also consider the weapon set from the Delta rep.

I'll have to go find the Krenim mission, I might not have gotten to it yet. And I was already grinding Temporal Rep, so that's good.

I should mention that you want the Temp rep set, but with either the Bajor or Solanae deflector for max EPG.

That's great just what I needed. There seems to be a ton of outdated info on the wiki, but this seems rather up to date.

Does the wiki have tips to make EC anywhere? I just do TFOs and sell what o can but this doesn't seem like a real option to make meaningful EC.

They never figured out how to properly monetize the Foundry. It also breaks every time they make season change until they get someone to fix it. So I'm sure they see it as a net negative in revenue. Players using it to cheese any kind of grind they can is probably a very distant third reason. Player happiness/retention aren't ever considerations.

Also the last developer who gave a gently caress about the Foundry, and worked hard to make it work, moved to their Magic game last year. She supposedly tried to train kael as a replacement but lol

As others pointed out, every time they make a large update, the foundry breaks. Then they have to deal with the players bitching about it until they finally make one of their devs drop what they were doing and try to make the foundry work again. I guess they've decided that the best way to stop the players whining about it is to remove it altogether. After years of playing STO, I'm doubtful that this will work as well as they hope.

More Foundry related fun: TacPaddy/parakema is having a tantrum over negative reviews for his Endeavor grind missions:

https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/ax9pg8/end_of_the_endeavor_grind_foundry_missions/

This is the guy whose public breakdown over 'unauthorised chat' in his Public Service channel (ie: getting angry at someone asking a question if an invite for a fleet ship was allowed, when they should have read the rules and asked only for invites in the special invite code, and muting the channel when people complained) caused it to implode, paving the way for nopps.

Although overshadowed by the Foundry shutdown news, this was absolutely inevitable the moment he published those missions, as whilst he wants to be known as a player who helps the STO playerbase, he is completely unable to deal with members of the public or handle any criticism/different opinions, insisting everyone read the rules in advance and adhere to them, and throwing passive-aggressive, then angry insults at anyone who asks questions/has issues.
