I actually don't know remember the author or the exact text is but imagine someone circa 2006 doing their best uh... Seanbaby/Maddox/something like that impression to write like 2000 words to the effect of "Wally West is the COOLEST MOTHERFUCKER IN THE UNIVERSE because he's a master of GOESFAST, bitch! The Speed Force is just GOESFAST, and it can do anything, bitch! Fuckin' Wally West made pants out of it! PANTS OUT OF GOESFAST MOTHERFUCKER! Goesfast can kick Batman's rear end! It can do anything! Probably some casual racism or homophobia! GOESFAST, DO YOU SPEAK IT? " Fair warning, I found it crossposted on Reddit. It's somehow longer and worse than I remembered, and I called it on casual homophobia but somehow did not cuss enough and the author shockingly resisted a lengthy Speedy Gonzales/fast twitch muscle fiber section. Now with added Archive Link! Rhyno posted:You have no idea how happy I am thatI posted this thread now. Pookie Bear posted:This needs to be placed somewhere, right next to CapnAndy's Fantastic Four idea. I could not read that without out dying. Silhouette posted:oh gently caress, this is the greatest thing i've ever read antisocial posted:It's already been said, but this post deserves even more praise. While history has proven me right in this specific sphere (I never liked Geoff Johns or Identity Crisis, I didn't want Barry Allen or Hal Jordan back, etc.) around this same time I was loudly proclaiming on here and elsewhere that Deadpool was never going to be anything more than a niche cult character and that all of these new guys getting shots at writing for Marvel (Hickman, Fraction, Remender, Aaron, Gillen) put out bad creator owned books and are going to flame out at Marvel too.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about but it sounds up there with the Superman Bizarro movie idea so I am just going to assume it's as stupid as that.

So after reading most of Snyder’s NU52 run (which I actually loved) and all the classic Batman graphic novels (TDKR, year one, killing joke, long Halloween etc) I’m finally reading Morrison’s run of the character. I got vol 1 of the Morrison Omnibus and...holy poo poo I love it! I adore the way Morrison writes both Batman and Bruce. So far I’m just getting through the Batman and Son portion but it’s so well written and the artwork is stellar. I haven’t read King’s take on the character for the Rebirth run, but are there any other authors that make Batman as interesting as Morrison does?

I’m excited to hear more about your read through of Morrison’s Batman. That’s a really good omnibus, and was worth double dipping after owning the monthly issues.

I don’t like King’s Batman run so much. It’s interesting how large some of the stories are, like the Poison Ivy arc, but fight scenes that are just pages of grunting turn me off. I’d rather, I dunno, read something. I quite like Heroes In Crisis, though, for some reason. It’s both a very cheesily of-the-moment event book and a decent superhero mystery, so far. I’d say I’m just angry about Batwedding but I felt this way several issues before it was revealed to be a nothing burger.

Given his handling of Booster Gold and his Batman run, I don't think he should be allowed to really touch A or B listers. He definitely has good story ideas, but I think they're better served with original characters or in something divorced from canon

Their stuff definitely leans hard into the gothic horror aspect of the character, but Moench was trying to figure out a balance between Bruce and Batman in the run and it was an interesting balancing act. The story lines are mostly three or two parters and no real over arching storylines but it's got some good character moments.

I don't think that's the Psycho Pirate mask. On the cover of the first issue it shows multiple of those AI things with a similar looking anonymous golden mask and I suppose patients would wear those to remain anonymous. Unless Batman mass produced Psycho Pirate masks.

It’s implied he did… something… and tried too hard to get them back, and that’s why everyone at Sanctuary died. He found Roy Harper’s body, cradled it, and sobbed about how he just didn’t want to be alone. And then Harley bashed him in the head with her mallet, probably killing him.

Like, there's no value in that scene. Is the point to be senseless? Oh well. Maybe Tom King just wants other people besides himself to be depressed and wants to add me to his number. I wonder if making Wally responsible for the deaths of dozens of heroes is DC's way of levelling the playing field between him and Barry. To this day people bring up how Barry's return caused so much harm and agony and damage and he got off scotfree and now here's Wally, doing something terrible and horrible because he lost his family and now they can just call anyone they like hypocrites for it. Man. I'm in such a bad mood now. I know it's just dumb comics and it'll be glossed over in a few years but it feels like such betrayal. Like they just outright hate me, personally, and the things I like and they make their decisions explicitly to ruin my day. Two Tone Shoes fucked around with this message at 04:30 on Nov 28, 2018 |
