At the end of the climb was that more of a test breakaway from Ineos to gauge where everyone else might be come tomorrow? It seemed like they could have gone earlier and made more gains, or was the twenty or so seconds they most they could hope for (want?) from today?

Alaphillipe is an excellent descender and I think they may want to have avoided any chance of him gapping the others on the descent, especially with the technical parts early

In some ways that attack gives Bernal free reign to go all out for the win on the next two stages. Julian couldn't cope with Bernal today and there is a whole bunch of climbing left.

They saw him get gapped, they're going to have to go balls to the grinder tomorrow and just try to kill him.

he's going to dangle 30 seconds off the top of Iseran, get it back on the descent and punch his way 20 seconds clear to tignes :dogcited:

what.
I still believe.

Genuinely though they have to kill him on the first climb, but I think they're all so close together that as long as Alaphilipe doesnt try to chase everything himself he should be fine. Also the crowds will be like 50 deep on Val Thorens and that man will vomit blood at the top if he has to to stay in Yellow.
