I also got it when my mom remarried and had my last name legally changed, and according to 23&Me I don't have a drop of Dutch in me. A bunch of jobs back I had a boss who was interested in where the name was from and when I said I wasn't actually Dutch he said something like "Well, you're really tall, so it still makes sense." For a split second I was like "Oh, hey, you're right!" before my brain starting actually examining the statement.

Germans, Scandinavians, Italians, Spaniards and Greeks all have examples of being described as swarthy by anglo-saxons. Nowadays Germans and Scandinavians have been upgraded to fully "white" people. Ancient Greeks and Romans are white, and typically portrayed as pale (possibly Victorian racists were confused by the statues being marble and alabaster). Modern Greeks and Italians are still swarthy though. If you are a sailor or farmer you are probably swarthy regardless of ethnicity. While if you are a princess you certainly are not swarthy regardless of ethnicity, though you may be exotic.
