I'm going to say things like Bigfoot, Murder-cars, Hookhand Hitch hikers, and other things of American folklore probably won't be accurately depicted. *edit* The Yokai trailer points out black people as a feature.

Basically an artistic version of the last boss fight with some of the game mixed in.

It seems if a indie dev make a quirky RPG it's mercilessly slapped as Earthbound even if the combat and everything else is 100% different. I like EarthBound a lot. I like it enough that I don't post in this thread, despite a very strong desire, because I sometimes see people saying they're trying it for the first time and I don't want to spoil anything for them. I liked it enough to have spent a tremendous amount of time doing god knows what weird things related to it. It's probably why I do what I do in general. I'm currently getting paid to make EarthBound-centric content. It's one of the reasons I think games can be truly worthwhile experiences. I get irked seeing people say something is 'like EarthBound' because those games never seem to measure up. And I like Undertale better. I think it's a better game. A more interesting experience. I'm definitely biased towards Undertale, but I'm biased as hell towards EarthBound too. This isn't a comparative thing though, just speaking as a guy who likes EarthBound tremendously. If you like EarthBound, even just a little bit, there is no excuse or issue that can be thunk up that should preclude you from trying Undertale. It's great stuff.

Undertale is from the same spiritual lineage as Earthbound, if a phrase has to be used to compare it. Not a SUCCESSOR, just a concept in the same house of design. Undertale is good because it's a game that actually works hard to play with expectations and use the medium of being an interactive game to have fun for your sake and its own. It also has good writing, likeable characters, really good music, a shitload of actually legit different endings (and not just one line variations) based on what you do during the game, and for an RPG it's short in a good way, in that it's succinct and doesn't drag itself along, keeping itself tightly designed. It's very clearly someone's labor of love that strikes the same tones that Earthbound did for a lot of people. That's why it's good.

gently caress I keep forgetting to buy undertale but I'm v happy it's doing so well Also I'm sure part of the reason it's so earthboundy is because Radiation used to be p big in the EB community as well, I always assumed that was why

I had no idea about the Homestuck connection, and I'm kind of glad I didn't prior to playing. I'll be that guy and say it might've put me off to it, initially. I'm enjoying Undertale a lot, and have already started a pacifist run on my main comp. I've been playing it on my netbook, and it's a joy to go through it using two different play styles (with noticeably varying outcomes). I'd be kicking myself if I avoided it for such a stupid reason. While we are on the topic of indie RPGs that were inspired by Earthbound, has anyone played LISA yet? I've been meaning to pick it up after I'm finished with Undertale (which is a fantastic game by the way) and I just want to hear an opinion on the game before I buy it.
