I did a write up on last nights impact episode in the ImpactxDark thread and after sleeping on it, I stand by 3 things: 1) Taya, Rosemary, Bey and Alexander are the ones who stood out as very good. 2) Kenny and Callis segment was EXCELLENT. It’s a highlight of 2020 promos if we are being honest. Many good promos in 2020 and this will go down as one of them. Callis has and always will be top tier in this department. 3) I bold this here too like I did in the other thread: Sami Callihan’s promo is arguably one of the worst promos in all of 2020 wrestling. It was unbelievably bad, especially from a veteran. I was shocked to see just how horrible it was. I did enjoy the Impact show overall though and enjoy seeing the rub they’re getting as it’s good for wrestling and those who want to make a living off it. It’s a very, very, very minor league promotion and that’s ok! It presents itself as such and knows where it falls in the hierarchy of promotions. If they ever want to move up though, they need WAY better leadership and coaching though. Way better. I sound critical but in the big picture, it was still fun and it was just nice to see people working together. Maybe it’s a spark to something fresh!

Josh Matthews was fine for his role in the interview segment, but how is he so drat hoarse when he's commentating? Somebody get this guy some voice lessons.

That sami promo was easily one of the worst promos i’ve heard. His delivery was fine but the content loving sucked, and calling yourself “the draw” even as a heel is stupid.

Sami Callahan managed to pull an inverted Eddie Kingston for me in that after listening to him for about two minutes I decided that I'd rather do anything besides hearing what he had to say.

So, Kenny is pulling into Dynamite tonight in the Lex Express and will probably have some terrible (great), moving music video tribute to himself based on the Impact promo. But he also mentioned that he was going to be have some huge surprise. Speculation on what that could be? If he's doing the "conquer every promotion" thing, I guess it could be something to do with that and maybe something about AAA? Does that constitute a huge surprise? Or is the surprise going to be him being an insufferable dick with a Lex Express bus and wild celebration/entrance?

He said it was related to Lex the same way the bus is. Did lex show up via chopper at any point? My other guesses are going to be a shocking debut like lex on nitro, or he's going to kill Ms. Elizabeth.

That was also his big face turn. I guess it'd be appropriate for Kenny to show up in a helicopter and body slam, I dunno, Marko Stunt to cement his heel turn.

Jordan7hm posted:This was so good. It really is so good. It’s one of those things we’ll look back on 2020 wrestling and say it was a defining moment. So, Moxley is gonna be 2020 wrestler of the year really. He was the best out of all promotions. Roman will probably be #2. This for North American promotions. But I just have a feeling 2021 is going to be, and I looked this up for the Chinese New Year, and oh, wouldn’t you know it, it literally says right here in my Farmer’s Almanac that 2021 is called Year of the Kenny. Yep, it’s gonna be Year of the Kenny and I’m already calling it, as long as Kenny stays healthy, he will be wrestler of the year and stake his claim to North American casual fans as the best. Not just the best, but possibly the FACE OF WRESTLING. The battle lines won’t exist between the war of brands. This is a move to bring wrestling fans and wrestling prominence back. Callis needs to stick with him for awhile. He’s going to add a lot to cover up the very few weaknesses that Kenny has. Callis a storyteller. He conveys emotion and spirit very well. He will stake his claim as a manager and key figure in wrestling for 2021 as well. This is all people are talking about right now. Eyes are currently all over this angle and every single week, their segments are going to get heavy eyes on them and be scrutinized to the second. Both of these men are incredibly smart and I have high expectations that I believe will be met. This isn’t a battle for Impact. It’s not a battle for AEW. It’s not a battle for any other promotion out there. This storyline is currently about wrestling. It’s about a revival and gaining more prominence in the art of sport. 2021 is the Year of the Kenny and wrestling is going to have a little weight on Kenny’s shoulders that he is going to be judged on for the year. He will not be seen and viewed solely as an AEW Wrestler when 2021 gets rolling. I believe he will be known as Wrestling in itself in 2021. That’s how big this can and should get. I expect him to nail the expectations.

This is a long post, but I hope you read it. It’s therapeutic for me—I really love the community and I forget that sometimes. I’m a huge social and people person and things just feel good today. I like that feeling. Stay with me if you’re bored and looking for a read. There’s a lot of things I really love in my life and the world and wrestling is one of them. Here we go: Let me add something as I’ve been getting up to speed with all the great posts here. It’s been awesome to read the past few pages I guess I missed as I cooled off on seeing Jaxson loving Ryker back in a WWE ring last weekend. Happy days happy days happy days, just keep saying that, me! You got this! Woo woo woo! Ok here we go: I’m so excited to see a tide get turned in WRESTLING right now. I currently don’t see battles between brands as of right now. It just feels different. I read some of the worst of the worst on the internet boards for wrestling and even lately, it’s been more positive than normal. More eyes have been on it than normal too. People are starting to pay attention to other wrestlers and get invested. Most importantly in all of this, real, true alternatives exist for people to make a living and have fun making a living off wrestling. I never thought I would say that in 2020, and it’s not entirely true because indies are shut down right now. But wrestlers are really pulling for each other and people are reaching across the aisle to better one another. It’s not as big of a joke as it has been. Somethings changing in the air as a whole. I attribute that to the executives at the companies who are putting it out there that they want to “save” wrestling and make it a better place than where it was. Stories are being told that are chapters in a book instead of a 16 page children’s book about caterpillars and if they go to heaven. Ok, that’s a stretch, they definitely do and I can prove it but that’s for a different day! The authenticity of wrestlers finding their role and their niche is really being defined right now. I know there’s technically this artificial war between some brands right now, but that luster is wearing off, especially as we see programs like Dark say, “Come be part of our brand and get your reps in. Get your name out there. See if there’s a spot for you.” Wrestlers are paying attention to the Universe of Wrestling as I’ll call it here to see what’s going on around them. It’s like this whole other world and people are finding their place in it. I know who guys like VSK and Dani Jordyn and Josh Alexander and Watts and Thunder Rosa and all these other talents that exist, are good at what they do, and they get to exist in a GIANT WORLD as opposed to a little, exclusive playground. I’m going to look back on 2020 and feel as if wrestling got bigger. Don’t mind the ratings. Don’t mind what you read or see. It really did get bigger. Brands got bigger. Wrestlers got better. Things were discovered. I said this about a week ago that many days, it’s easy to feel ashamed to be a wrestling fan. I remember when it used to be a shame to be a video game player. “Oh, that person is a nerd!” “Oh, they have no friends!” “What a dumb hobby to have!” Now, you’re in the minority if you don’t play games. It’s not as weird, if weird at all! Wrestling has more growth ahead of it but this year took leaps and bounds over what it was. It’s going to get better and better, I can feel it coming. This coming year is going to be a pivotal year for wrestling as a whole. Not sports entertainment. Not sports. Not entertainment. But wrestling, as a whole. We’re going to define it by the wrestlers themselves and not the brand they’re part of or this and that. It’s going to grow and so will the talent that are part of it because they are invested more and being invested in more. Let’s just say with a fun little quote that many of us know: “We are just...getting...started!”
