Examining their looks misses the appeal to the average groupie: They were big loving deals, and fame can be just as much of an aphrodisiac as power, and I'll bet they had a decent line of bullshit for talking to ladies, as well. They also had decent builds in their prime, which probably didn't hurt their chances.
